Looking for a great restaurant/hotel...Windsor area. Can anyone help?

I've spent hours trawling the internet trying to find the right place and so far no joy

What I really need is someone to say "Oi try this place it's fantastic.."

Meeting up with a couple of girlfriends in September.
maybe a Hotel du Vin/Malmaison type place?
or a really good pub with rooms?

Have never been to Windsor so no idea what's there.

Any help would be much appreciated

I can recommend [www.oakleycourt.co.uk this place]] but not sure if this is what you meant by hotel/ restaurant - is it a girly weekend thingy that you're doing? If so, perfect - lovely setting, great spa, great restaurant, nice rooms.

Stargazing · 08/07/2007 12:36

sorry this place

SeaSalty · 08/07/2007 12:55

Stargazing - Yes girly thing but we only have 1 night and 1 day so we really want to make the most of it

Like the look of Oakley Court though

Thank you

dp works near there and goes out a lot. He is out at the mo but can ask him later if you need more suggestions.

SeaSalty · 08/07/2007 13:06

BBBee - that would be great, thank you

People with local knowledge, without fail, seem to be able to point you in the right direction

SeaSalty · 08/07/2007 16:16

The Fat Duck certainly has a great reputation. Anyone eaten there?

Thanks ZZMum - Have had a peep at the Oakley's website too and looks great. Good to get positive feedback from people who have stayed there

Ok thanks for asking anyway BBBee

I reckon we'll go for the Oakley unless anyone leaps in quickly and yells ...DON'T!

There's a hotel du Vin in Henley which isn't that far from Windsor

Ditzymumofone · 09/07/2007 11:50

Try this:www.monkeyisland.co.uk its in Bray and and walkable from the Fat Duck. Its lovely. Had my 30'th birthday there, great fun.

SeaSalty · 09/07/2007 14:15

Thanks for that Zubb I had no idea there was a Hotel du Vin in Henley. I'm sure there were only about half a dozen last time I looked??

DH & I went to the H du V in Bristol for dinner last night. We spent a very pleasant evening dining and then lounging on the big comfy sofas listening to the live jazz band who were gently strumming away in the corner making beautiful music...

aaaaahhhh bliss

Ditzymumofone - will have a look at monkey island too, great name!

Have you eaten at the Fat Duck?

hotel du vin in henley

plus lunch at fat duck, if you can get a table

sounds great

CountessDracula · 09/07/2007 17:10

how about Heston Blumenthal's pub the Hinds Head in Bray, much cheaper, great food.

CountessDracula · 09/07/2007 17:10

or the waterside inn of course

CountessDracula · 09/07/2007 17:12

hindshead

TutterJane · 09/07/2007 17:14

yup, cd, had thought of his pub too

assumed there's be a lunch menu at fat duck but can't see anything online

i wouldn't have the full month tasting menu at lunchtime - nor would i pay for the a la carte

SeaSalty · 09/07/2007 19:23

CountessD The Hind's Head looks absolutely perfect!

However...

I have just tried their online reservations and it will only take me up until the end of November and there doesn't appear to be a single availability between now and then

What a shame

I'm going to check out the Riverside Inn now - pretty sure I saw a great review for it the Guardian travel section

SeaSalty · 09/07/2007 19:28

Am feeling very lucky to be honest

This get together is with 2 of my very best friends that I rarely get to see
so we thought we might as well push the boat out a little
