I've accidentally ordered 10 million tins of beans

Well maybe a bit of an exaggeration...but they are taking over my kitchen! My local food bank doesn't need any at the moment so I am hoping someone can give me a recipe to help use them up. Extra points for anything I can do in the slow cooker and freeze!

Take them back? If you ordered them on an online supermarket shop, you can usually return unopened items to a store.

IhatetheArchers · 06/09/2018 10:44

Slow cooker, add vegetables, can of soup or tinned tomatoes, quorn sausages, = sausage casserole.

Send them back Confused. Why would you spend months eating beans because you ordered them by accident?

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 06/09/2018 10:51

Well I am without a car for the time being so it's easier to use them than cart them all back. If I freeze what I make we wont be eating them everyday Smile Thanks for the ideas-I do have some quorn sausages so I will get on that one now!

My dc like cooked sausages each one cut into 3 add to beans. Then top with mash with cheese in it.

They freeze really well.

Can you donate for Harvest Festival at local churches or schools. I add them to left over chilli and casseroles.

TheHobbitMum · 06/09/2018 11:25

Boston BBQ beans & campfire stew are all winners in our house

Figmentofimagination · 06/09/2018 11:26

Campfire stew. I've just made this in the slow cooker today with 2 tins of beans. Make chilli but use baked beans instead of kidney beans. Toasties or quesadillas with beans inside

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 06/09/2018 11:31

Unfortunately our church and schools give the harvest festival proceeds to said overrun with beans food bank Grinwe will get through them (there are 6 of us!) I'd just like to get them off the side and out of sight! First lot of sausage casserole is in the slow cooker as we speak! Thanks everyone.

Good old beans on toast for tea tonight OP! Grin

Thats 3 tins gone surely!? If there's 6 of you...

Confusicated · 06/09/2018 13:55

Erm? Am I being stupid, but don’t beans keep for years in a tin?

Don’t you have a garage? Utility roof? Cupboard? Under the bed? To put them that would be a hell of a lot easier than cooking loads of stuff and filling your freezer?

RavenLG · 06/09/2018 14:03

But they keep for ages so do they really need 'using up'? Can you not just shove them in a cupboard somewhere and use them as needed?

We tend to use 2/3 tins of beans in campfire stew (gammon joint, 2/3 tins of beans, tin of tomatoes, onions, peppers, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic and tomato puree. Whack it all in the slow cooker on low for 8 hours. Take the gammon out and shred and mix back in. Serve with whatever you like (we usually do mash and veg, or JP).

Skisunsnow · 06/09/2018 14:16

Can't you just keep them and use them when you need them?

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 06/09/2018 14:38

Not enough kitchen cupboards, no wardrobes (sloping ceilings!) no loft and no garage! All of that made worse by the fact there are 6 of us in a small 3 bed. Storage is an issue here Blush I've made a dent in the stack this morning though thank you mumsnetters!

fishfinger pie!

layer fish fingers, beans and mash in a dish, add cheese on top, into oven until the cheese/potato is golden and toasty.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 06/09/2018 14:42

Fishfinger pie would be a winner here! Added to the list!

Do you have a local shop? You could probably sell them on.

Get a piece of wood, stack the beans, put wood on top and yo have a new coffee table.

The fish finger pie sounds amazing comfort food (noted)

EvilRingahBitch · 06/09/2018 14:55

My DC like a bean bake thing.
Fry an onion, maybe with a squidge of garlic. Add 1 tin of baked beans, 1 tin of sweetcorn and 1 tin of mixed beans and warm through. Put in an oven proof dish (or cook in an oven proof pan to start with). Cover with torn up bread and then with grated cheese. Put under grill until cheese is toasted. You could probably do it with just baked beans not the mixed beans.

EvilRingahBitch · 06/09/2018 14:56

(I forgot to say drain the sweetcorn)

Xiaoxiong · 06/09/2018 15:15

Are they all baked beans, ie with the sauce? You can wash the sauce off in a sieve and use the resulting beans in anything that calls for a tin of haricot or cannelini beans. I like to make hummus with them instead of using chickpeas, or make spicy beans with chorizo, eggs and feta for brunch - recipe here in the Guardian.

There's a great quick cassoulet here as well that needs a tin of beans. (In fact I think I got the idea of washing the sweet sauce off baked beans from Jack Monroe in the first place!)

MrBeansXmasTurkey · 06/09/2018 15:23

Add some beans into anything with mince, if it's tomatoey sauce then just leave the sauce or rinse off as above. Will also make your meat go further.
SW have a nice tomato soup recipe using a tin of beans too I will try to find it.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 06/09/2018 17:50

You lot are brilliant! I may accidentally over order baked beans again Wink
