Do you have one? What do you like to make in it?

I used to have a slow cooker, which was great for making stock and mulling wine.

meet thanks for the dough tips, that is definitely on my list of things to try.
pawnee I used this recipe for the chicken : rasamalaysia.com/instant-pot-honey-sesame-chicken/

Dinner was lovely. Cheescake was also lovely. we are all stuffed! I had a few timing issues but will get used to timings I'm sure. Didnt get round to the yogurt - that is on tomorrows to do list.Am planning maybe meatballs in sauce for dinner tomorrow with pasta.
I love only having one pot to clean too!

PawneeParksDept · 03/09/2018 21:28

Thanks!

Enervator · 04/09/2018 07:03

I ordered mine, down at £115 on Amazon. Squee!

marvelousways · 04/09/2018 07:34

enervator I don't think you'll regret it! I got that same deal on amazon. I was dubious it may end up being another unused gadget but already I feel it will become invaluable!

Can anyone tell me about the delayed /timer option? If I put ingredients in in the morning before work and set to be ready about 5pm how will that work? Will it cook straight away and then keep warm? Is that safe? will it end up overcooked mush?

marvelousways · 04/09/2018 07:36

I am , however, back on my diet today having gained 2lb whilst on holiday last week! (I have 2 more stone to loose having lost 3 since Jan) so there will not be any more cheesecakes for a while!

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 04/09/2018 07:48

Is £115 as low as people have seen them or is it worth holding off for Black Friday/Xmas sales??

MeetOnTheLedge · 04/09/2018 07:56

Mine was £69.99 on Black Friday two years ago but last year they stocked out in Europe in the autumn/winter and there were no discounts to be had. The Instant Pot UK Community FB page is good for price/availability information but its a busy group, I had to unfollow in the end as my entire newsfeed was full of pictures of people's dinners.

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 04/09/2018 08:22

It's always the same when something gets popular isn't it! Facebook just gets overrun. Oh well, will go back to trying to cfind nvince my DH it's a worthwhile splurge Grin

MaxineQuordlepleen · 04/09/2018 08:32

It sounds great. But... anyone here living in a veggie/ vegan household and using it a lot? I’m in a real cooking rut which I think is about tiredness and time pressure but most recipes seem to be meat based. On the slow cooker threads people always say don’t bother if you’re veggie. Obviously it’s good for soup and pulses but I have to make a case to DP who does most of the cooking at the moment.

FishChipsAndBeans · 04/09/2018 10:08

I do steel cut oats directly in the pot and pressure cook them. This gives me 3 days worth of porridge:

1 measuring cup of steel cut oats
3 cups water
2 chopped apples
1 teaspoon all spice

Pressure cook 10 mins with natural release.

Decant to tupperware. Stir in milk to get preferred consistency. Will be good for a few days in the fridge - it gets creamier each day. For breakfast, put some in a bowl, add a bit of milk and microwave 2-3 mins.

Boiled eggs are really easy.

I also use it for cooking dried lentils and beans without having to soak overnight.

It's brilliant for soups - I make a mean gammon and lentil soup in it.

I also cook meat from frozen. And also sometimes cook for my dog in it - mincemeat, veg, lentils, herbs, a bit of water. My dog loves the instant pot!

TheCag · 04/09/2018 12:11

@MaxineQuordlepleen some vegan friends recommended it to me as it’s good for cooking dried beans and lentils (minimal soaking required). I make baked beans with dried haricots, I do give them an hours soak first out of habit but the recipe says you can just add 5 mins to the cooking time and they’d be fine.

Enervator · 04/09/2018 14:22

I am looking forward to risotto which van be vegetarian.

And so many soups mmmmmmm

MaxineQuordlepleen · 04/09/2018 16:54

Thanks TheCag. I shall dig around for recipes.

CruCru · 05/09/2018 17:02

You know, there’s an Instant Pot app (free). Looks pretty good.

I am using the IP for the first time (making Chili for the kids’ dinner).

@CruCru

I did an IMMENSE Sausage Casserole in mine

Recipe/Instructions

As many sausages as you need

Sauté til brown

Added mustard, onions mushrooms, bacon lardons

1 can of Chopped Tomatoes
1 can of butter beans
1 pk Of Green Beans
1/2 Bottle Of Red Wine
Garlic
Chicken Stock Portion
Kale
Chili Flakes
One tin of Heinz Beans and Sausages

Put in on Bean/Chili mode

Then put on Slow Cook til you need it

The tin of beans may sound rogue BUT it adds a lovely flavour

I promise it's amazing, I took the Jamie Oliver recipe and the Hairy Bikers one amalgamated the two and added the beans

8 servings

LUSH

CruCru · 06/09/2018 13:14

Cool, thank you.

Sausage and orzo casserole last night. I did initially have a burning issue and had to add more lingerie but it turned out lovely. I've got a gammon joint in on slow cook today whist at work.

WeAreSailing · 06/09/2018 13:47

La la la fingers in ears. Got to wait until 25th for my order to arrive Angry

marvelousways · 06/09/2018 15:45

Lol just read my post! I really didn't add more lingerie! I added more WATER! stupid phone

Troels · 06/09/2018 17:19

What is this wizardry?? I have never heard of an instant pot!

I'm thinking the same thing. Need to add this bit of kit to my wishlist.
Is it a modern version of a pressure cooker? I used to have one and loved making soups and stews in that.
I have a slow cooker and use that when I remember to fiill it in the morning. This seems much faster like a pressure cooker

PawneeParksDept · 06/09/2018 18:57

@Troels it's a cross between both a Slow Cooker and a Pressure Cooker, and also has other functionalities, makes Soup, Rice, Yoghurt, Porridge
