Do you have one? What do you like to make in it?

I used to have a slow cooker, which was great for making stock and mulling wine.

Oooooo......gammon joint in minutes rather than hours as well. Just falls apart.

Immigrantsong · 26/08/2018 22:25

How does it compare to a slow cooker taste wise? Everyone seems to love slow cookers and no matter what I cook in it, it tastes bland and boring. Is the insta pot the same? I don't want to fork out for another fail.

goodgirls · 26/08/2018 22:28

miles better than a slow cooker, which ime is always watery tasteless crap.

MawkishTwaddle · 26/08/2018 22:31

Way better than a slow cooker.

Immigrantsong · 26/08/2018 22:32

@goodgirls yes exactly! I really don't get why people like slow cookers. So is it worth buying the insta pot then? Is it foolproof or do you need any skills?

NorthernLurker · 26/08/2018 22:35

What this thing of which you speak? Sounds like a pressure cooker for the 21st century crossed with a microwave and without risk of explosions?

guessmyusername · 26/08/2018 22:35

My favourite instant pot success story is the cheesecake. I never thought it would be possible in a pressure cooker but it is fantastic. My family is addicted.

TheFifthKey · 26/08/2018 22:38

I hate slow cooker food - watery and tasteless on the whole. But i love instant pot stuff! No comparison between them. And you can be eating half an hour after you walked through the door.

MeetOnTheLedge · 26/08/2018 22:39

I've only done cheesecake once but it was amazing.

Yes Northern - its an electric multi function cooker. Pressure cooker/slow cooker/yogurt maker/steamer and you can saute in it and use it like a normal pan for example I stewed a batch of cooking apples in mine this week.

wowfudge · 26/08/2018 22:42

You do have to season well ime. As well as stews and casseroles, I cook potatoes in there - 6 minutes and no need for 1kg of new potatoes for example. I make yoghurt regularly (the Duo is the model with the yoghurt setting). Risotto is dead easy. I made clotted cream this week. At Christmas I did braised red cabbage in it - that is extremely quick.

wowfudge · 26/08/2018 22:42

No mess, not no need

MawkishTwaddle · 26/08/2018 22:44

Cheesecake. God it's gorgeous.

We’ve ordered an Instant Pot
Immigrantsong · 26/08/2018 22:47

Ok I am sold. Where does one buy them from?

Piggyhoolier · 26/08/2018 22:49

I’ve just got one and am watching with interest for tips! So far I’ve done whole roast chicken - nice enough, but the stock was divine, pork tenderloin which was amazing and a boneless lamb shoulder joint which was unbelievably tender. Need to branch out, a rice all in one job was not a success but I’ll attemp the risotto outlined by a pp above, thank you

WhatsGoingOnEh · 26/08/2018 22:51

We've got one, and have travelled from sceptical to evangelical in the time it takes to make a delicious beef casserole (about 13 minutes).

It's fab! Pressure-cooking is incredible - you get the same results as an afternoon's slow cooing in 1/10th of the time. Curries are FANTASTIC.

I've made yogurt and it was gorgeous. I'm on WW at the moment and we're using the IP every at for bolognaise, chilli, curry and soup. It'll be even better in the autumn/winter.

PawneeParksDept · 26/08/2018 22:55

I have one of these

Made an AMAZING Sausage Casserole and Beef Stew.

Definitely want to try Risotto mentioned

Can any IP users list good recipes they've done here? I'm very new with mine but it is BRILLIANT and I'm looking for new things to try

PawneeParksDept · 26/08/2018 22:56

How much liquid @CoperCabana ?

outnumbered77 · 26/08/2018 23:04

Love my instant pot too. Did a massive gammon joint in it tonight and regularly make a lovely curry sauce that only takes 5 minutes. Whole frozen chicken is quick too. Not tried risotto though, must investigate that!

Moogdroog · 27/08/2018 07:32

I love this blog for very authentic curry recipes, among others pipingpotcurry.com

I follow her on Facebook, and she always seems to pop up with a little video of something delicious when I'm stuck for what to cook.

Whatsnewwithyou · 27/08/2018 07:37

Love mine, the pulled pork is outstanding. Also butter chicken which tastes amazing (I just googled the recipe), soups, porridge, risotto, mashed potatoes, etc.

I also make jam in mine which is so easy (but I don't can in it, that would be dangerous!).

IStillMissBlockbuster · 27/08/2018 07:48

I want to love it but after the slow cooker deception, I am wary.

With pressure cookers, isn't there a long warming up and cooling/depressurising time? I heard that you need to give it like 20 mins to heat up and then after to depressurise?

Jaxtellerswife · 27/08/2018 08:14

What does it look like? Are they expensive?

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 27/08/2018 08:32

I am going to get one. I’ve borrowed my dad’s and was totally unconvinced I’d like it but he insisted I cook beef in it at Christmas because I was cooking more than one meat. It was amazing. He convinced me to roast a chicken in it a couple of months ago then stuck it in the oven to brown while I was roasting the veg and potatoes. It was lovely.
Decided yesterday I needed one when I was out longer than planned and didn’t have time to roast a chicken that needed cooked yesterday and make soup for dinner.
Now I’ve tried one I can see how easily it could become a necessity.

TheCag · 27/08/2018 08:36

I make yoghurt, lentil soup, gammon joints, chicken tortilla soup, homemade baked beans. Also pulled pork or beef. They are v popular in the US so a lot of the recipes online are American.

People rave about risotto and cheesecake so I need to try those!

I got mine on Amazon prime day 2017 for about £80 I think. Twas a bit of a gamble but I’m really pleased with it.
