Every meal I cook DP hates

Thinkpositive23 · 09/04/2018 19:14

So this is the 4th time running I've cooked DP taken one bite and refused to eat it.
Chilli - mince too chewy.
Beef stew - tasteless
Chicken with rice and hot sauce - didn't fancy
Spag bol - mince gristly
And tonight corned beef hash - tastes off

I follow recipes and put salt and pepper in it but nothing I do is right.

Can someone give me some simple recipes to try?

👎👎😟

Oops was trying to say, you need his help not insults.

youngestisapsycho · 09/04/2018 19:44

Seriously? Do not cook for him anymore! Make you and DC dinner and he can make his own. I wouldn’t put up with that.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/04/2018 20:02

The only possible response when your heavily pregnant partner with SPD cooks for you is "thank you, sit down and let me eat then I'll clean up".

Thinkpositive23 · 09/04/2018 20:02

Forgot to answer the what I'm using answer sorry with mince and beef am most probs using cheaper ones maybe I should buy the higher cost better meats?? Slow cooker I have! I will be that out!

Thanks for all your support guys man child has gone to get himself some take away hope he gets sodding good poisoning....only joking... kinda

He never used to complain about my cooking he knows I hate it and he is very fussy about food but now it's endless complaints!

I agree with everyone else, however if you do continue to cook for him I’d either go with veggie dishes as it appears to be the meat he mostly dislikes or not bother actually cooking just bung a jacket potato in the oven and grate some cheese or chuck in a pizza.

LoniceraJaponica · 09/04/2018 20:06

I would just give him beans on toast every night from now on. It sounds like you have two children in the house, not one.

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/04/2018 20:07

you shouldn't buy!

He should buy and find some recipes to try . I know from experience that the last thing you feel like doing when you are pregnant with spd is eating and everything tastes like crap cos you don't feel like it.

Don't waste your time and ^your" money . Let him do it.

If it is a quality issue then a simple, thank you for doing dinner tonight sweetie but I think next time we will try X shop next time what do you think? Could have sufficed

And then he goes.

MsGameandWatching · 09/04/2018 20:08

Ex H was like this. I stopped cooking for him. By the time we split up I hadn't cooked him a meal in two years.

MongerTruffle · 09/04/2018 20:08

In my opinion, it's better to buy better quality meat and have it less often. That's not the issue here though.

mumoy · 09/04/2018 20:09

Order a large takeaway ......for one (to share with your six year old)!!

EggysMom · 09/04/2018 20:10

I got round a similar problem (not liking some of my ingredients) by making DH chief cook for the house whilst we were both at home, and then he became SAHD looking after our son whilst I went to work. I've had to adapt my palate to his style of cooking, and I occasionally insist on having separate meals so that I get a bit of variety. But the only thing I cook now is the Sunday roast Smile

Thinkpositive23 · 09/04/2018 20:11

You've all cheered me up thank you!

Think I'll carry on what I'm doing and let DP cook for himself from now on....FUCK HIM

UniqueAsAUnicorn · 09/04/2018 20:12

The only thing you should say when someone has cooked you a meal...is thank you.

31 weeks preg with severe spd on crutches too so cooking right now is fuing awful!!!!!!

I can imagine most things are pretty fucking awful right now! Flowers OP. He is unbelievable.

Katjolo · 09/04/2018 20:13

Yes agree. Get him to cook!

Grumpbum · 09/04/2018 20:13

Open oven, lob in potatoes, bake, open beans, heat and serve. Repeat every night until he’s bored and offers to cook meanwhile order takeaway and eat what you fancy

Kirta · 09/04/2018 20:14

Has he been watching masterchef? Does he think he's John Torode or Gregggg Wallace? You could ask him to give you a demo?!
I'm sure what you made was lovely! Did you enjoy it?

topcat2014 · 09/04/2018 20:14

I always shop at Aldi, but get lean steak mince (which is 5% fat).
The 'normal' mince is 20% fat, and, tbh, I wouldn't fancy it in anything.

Jamie Oliver did a great book a few years ago that we like using:
"Ministry of food"

Situp · 09/04/2018 20:17

He is a twat. He can cook for himself.

I use a slow cooker for mince based stuff which makes a big difference. I don't bother pre-browning anything either.

Checklist · 09/04/2018 20:20

DH specifies mince with only 5% fat, as he can't abide fat in any meat. However, that aside, DS had to cook every night through his DP's pregnancy, as she had pregnancy related carpal tunnel syndrome and her fingers were numb (to the point, she took a dish out of the oven without oven gloves, as she felt no pain and suffered burns)!

Time for your OH to step up to the plate?

Ragusa · 09/04/2018 20:22

@Thinkpositive23 what a dick your DH is.

I think you should stop cooking for him and also more importantly stop fucking him .

He sounds like an A-grade, organic, free-range idiot who is unworthy of your time and attention.

Attitudes to simple things like food can teĺl you so much. Sit up and listen.

Booie09 · 09/04/2018 20:26

Go to Iceland stock up on frozen ready meals and tell him to ping away.

HeadingForSunshine · 09/04/2018 20:36

I think Sainsbury's Basics 20% fat mince is the best for flavour. Fry the fat off and drain though.

Pack mince
Med chopped onion
Lazy garlic
Tin chopped toms
Glass red wine
Squirt tom puree
2 tsps oregano
2 bay leaves
Salt and pepper
Simmer for one hr - serve with pssta.

Pack mince as above
Lazy garlic
Slosh of beef stock
Two tins chilli beans
Chilli powder 1 to 2 tsp drpending on strength - simmer for one hour
Serve with rolly up things (sorry can't remember name)
Small pack tex mex dips (guac, tom, sour crm and grated cheddar)
Shredded iceberg and chopped tom and cu.

Same mince
Medium onion
3-4 carrots sliced
Stir through scant tbs flour
Add large mug of beef stock
Tin toms if uou like
Pepper (go easy on salt if using concentrated stock)
Squirt of brown sauce

Let cool and slaver with mash for cottage pie and then bung in oven for 40 mins (warm mash spreads more easily) or serve with yorkshire puds and new pots.

Make double every time and freeze a portion for when baby comes.

HeadingForSunshine · 09/04/2018 20:37

He is an arse though.

Ragusa · 09/04/2018 20:41

Seriously sisters, is there not something wrong when we are sharing tips to appease men like this??
It's a big fat get stuffed from me. They can stuff themselves with cheap mince Grin.

HeadingForSunshine · 09/04/2018 20:48

No Ragusa when we kick them out we deserve to eat well.
