How do you like your porridge?

In an attempt to wean myself off unhealthy breakfast cereal, I'm trying to eat more porridge. But I find it impossible to eat just porridge, I need to put something on/in it. So far I've tried maple syrup, golden syrup, jam, but are things like that totally defeating my attempt at a healthier breakfast?

What do you like? I like most things, but am a bit funny about banana in porridge - bananas and hot don't go together!

I have overnight oats regularly - you can do so much with them, and they're so quick and easy. I mix a variety of seeds in there, like chia seeds, poppy seeds etc. I also have a little bit of cinnamon. I leave them in the fridge overnight and add fruit to them in the morning. :)

God peanut butter porridge is something I'm going to have to try. Yum.

Soaked overnight in semi-skimmed milk, then two 45 second microwave blasts. Add chopped apple and cinnamon, two more 45 second blasts. Add dollop of yoghurt and enjoy!

Cooked on the hob with milk, Topped with cinnamon and dried cranberries or a dollop of Morello cherry conserve. Or topped wit princes apple pie fruit filling and sprinkled with cinnamon.

Cinnamon, apples and a drizzle of honey's great because it tastes really decadent.

Otherwise I agree with Katescurious: I'm a big fan of overnight oats! Mix a tablespoon of chia seeds and another of oats, add some fruits, nuts (whatever flavours you like), cover it with milk and leave it to soak in the fridge overnight.

It has a really great, pudding-like texture and can be eaten cold or hot - so much yum.

I'm another fan of overnight oats. I put equal amounts of oats and milk in a bowl with chopped strawberries, a little bit of cocoa powder and chocolate chips (sometimes add nuts or seeds) then grab from fridge in morn mix it all up and add more milk if needed then eat cold I love it! Also if I want a crunchier texture I add a little bit of granola to it just before I eat.

I love this thread!
Made with milk, not water, in the micro.
Biggest oats you can find.
Dark brown sugar the standard.
Anytime there is spare dark chocolate around that gets dropped in to melt.
Love an overripe banana chopped and stirred in.
Yoghurt with hot porridge is a no.

I have previously read on MN of the porridge drawer. I want one!
Hope Howdens and B&Q are reading this.

I am lazy so like overnight oats. Mix rolled oats, spoon of chia seeds, dried fruit (apricots, prunes, pineapple, cranberries work well), hazelnut milk, spoon of sweetener and Greek yoghurt in a jar and leave overnight. I sometimes mix in cinnamon or nutmeg too.

Cooked with milk, large dollop of natural peanut butter mixed through and served with double cream.

Me, I prefer my porridge in the dustbin. (Hate the stuff)
I have heard that it's nice when made in a slow cooker overnight.
