Bloody hell, Aldi got expensive!

Went there last night, for the first time ever I didn't but some things due to prices (nectarines, £1.19 for four, blackberries, about thirteen million quid).
Is this Brexit, linked to the courgette crisis, or just a temporary blip? Aldi had always been guilt free shopping for me, the last bastion of chuck everything in the trolley and it'll be OK, is that not the case anymore? Sad

Yeah, low fat mince is up to £3.09, which is same as the main supermarkets. Salmon has jumped from £2.69 for two fillets to £3.49.

As with all shops, out of season produce is expensive! Keep it seasonal!

A friend had a similar shock last week. Did a typical shop thinking around £60 ended up just over £100 Shock

Sweep totally right of course, but as others have said meat / fish is up too, as we're condiments, sauces etc.
It may be time to take advantage tate of those "come back to us for online shopping and we'll give you a zillion quid off" vouchers. Bloody hell!

My last Lidl shop was the same as before.

My friend has decided to go to Lidl in future now.

I'll give Lidl a go then. Been resisting it as I know the layout of Aldi, it's closer by etc, but if the prices are going to keep rocketing it'll be worth the extra petrol to get to Lidl I'm sure.

Yes I agree. I went to the Co-op instead this week and my weekly shop was the same price and really good quality and selection.

I thought the same yesterday. Most things had a rise of 20/30p. It soon adds up!
Lidl it is I think.

I've drastically cut back on what treats we get on a food as the basic stuff is taking all the budget up.

Prices have been going up at aldi for months because of increasing food price inflation. It's happening at all the supermarkets.

My last two shops have been over £115 when I used to spend £60. I just put it down to me buying loads of meat as I'm low carbing! Gutted now! Will try lidl again x

Prices have gone up everywhere in the last 6 months. My biggest shock was in Sainsbury, I haven't noticed Aldi so much because I shop there every week.

I went there last week and spent 50 quid which was more than I expected. I didn't even notice any price increases. Went again this week and nearly everything I buy has gone up 20p+ We have a lidl currently being built and I can't wait for it to open because I prefere their stuff anyway.

pombear I was expecting it to have gone up, but was pleasantly surprised my full trolly was still between £80 and £90.

It might be the stuff I buy.

My Aldi shop used to be £30-£35 pounds now it's £50-£60...I'm glad you started this thread because I'd convinced myself I was going mad! I was pretty sure I wasn't getting double the amount of food!

Yeah, its inflation... you just haven't seen food price inflation for a while.

Latest OBR forecasts are for 4% inflation over 2017, you are going to notice that.

Agree! thought I was going mad too! I had hardly anything for £130.00 and that usually would have been a overloaded fridge. Last few weeks my fridge has been almost empty after day 3! So topping up shopping. Aldi is not that cheap anymore!

I thought I was going mad the other week. I made out a shopping list for Aldo and totalled it up on the calculator so I had a rough idea and it came to around £30 which seemed about right.
When it went through the till it was closer to £40. It seems to have increased all of a sudden and not just by a few pence per item either.

It's a number of things.... Petrol price etc but mostly it's the weak pound....

I was saying this to DH today as we were doing our accounts rock and roll our budget for our weekly shop was £60 and we put it up to £80 and now I'm really struggling to keep it under that and that's even with me buying half the amount of meat and no fish from there as I go to the butchers/fishmongers now. We can just about afford an extra £20 a week if needs be but I find myself being really worried for people who have cut back all they can as what options do they have? We were very close to being in this situation not so long ago so I find it hard not to worry about it.

Sterling has fallen 17% (against the $) since the EU referendum last year.
Now that does bring some economic benefits - principally it makes our exports cheaper which is a good thing for manufacturers in partic.
But it does drive up the cost of imports, and food is one of the most vulnerable things in that regard.
