Just moved here and getting bearings - need a decent (in all senses of the word) alternative to Waitrose for meat.

Thanks.

John Robinson on the High Street in Stockbridge. He's among the best in the country, you lucky thing!

We have friends in Stockbridge and I shop there everytime I visit!

Thanks team! I shall try Stockbridge - have already checked out Annies in Kimbridge (my local) but was a bit disappointed as it was obviously an eclectic selection designed to appeal to tourists though I didn't try the fish - good tip, thanks for that. Chandlers Fors is to far for us, as is Portsmouth, but thanks for the tips anyway as you never no when sausage rolls are needed en route..!

NorksBride - just read your profile. At the risk of seeming a bit naff, you sound very neece. Did do a profile but got shy and closed access. Shall open it up for tonight only, though I feel rather small and insignicant today, so my profile may well reflect that.

I don't know if you have any decent butchers, but I'm very jealous that you live in Stockbridge. My parents live the other side of Salisbury, and I always wanted to live in Stockbridge myself.

However I now live in England's arsehole.

Ho Hum.

brimfull · 01/03/2007 11:48

we use hockeys farm near ringwood here

piglit · 01/03/2007 11:53

We go to Hockeys as well. I find that sometimes the selection is great and on other days it's pretty poor. The dses always like to help themselves to the freebie bits of yummy cheese and sausage.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 01/03/2007 12:01

ggirl, you must be very near my parents, then. They use John Trim in Fordingbridge who is very good (but a wee bit pricey for my budget). Not that I live anywhere near there any more, anyway. Like I said, I am 270 miles away in England's arsehole (littered with closed factories and steel works, if that gives you a clue)

Eve · 01/03/2007 12:01

Hi...second all those butchers mentioned so far.

I am in Romsey.. where are you?

piglit · 01/03/2007 12:03

GOH - from what you have said I think I'm right on your parents' doorstep!

Eve · 01/03/2007 12:08

Crow farm shop is good for local bacon (forest fed pigs) bread and cakes.

Romsey farmers market is on this Sunday... good meat stalls.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 01/03/2007 12:18

Oh piglit, Lucky, lucky you!

I lived in Whitsbury for 12 years (apart from a 3-year interim period when I was in Dorchester) and would sell one of my children (the eldest one ) to go back!

madora you cant go wrong with john robinson in stockbridge high st.
best meal for miles!
i know johnny from years back when my father owned a restaurant in stockbridge high street hes a great bloke! very amusing real country lad!

Eve · 01/03/2007 17:25

GGirl.. if you are ever on the crow to Burley road and see a horse trying to unseat its rider and having a tantrum in the middle of the road....that will be me.

..and I apologise now!

...I have held up traffic so many times on that road, but generally people are really nice and slow down for me.

I get the odd one who even though horse is prancing around the road try to overtake.

NorksBride · 01/03/2007 19:42

Cod - we want butchers, not fishmongers
