When you tip a tin of kidney beans into mince...

...or a stew, or something like that, do you tip the liquid from the tin in too?

Or do you drain it?

Or do you drain it AND rinse the beans?

And do you have a reason for doing it the way you do?

(Doesn't have to be kidney beans, any tin of beans will do.)

Drain and rinse, the bean water sometimes looks gross

Rioja123 · 27/12/2016 13:05

Drain and rinse

SolemnlyFarts · 27/12/2016 13:06

Drain and rinse, apparently there will be less farting that way not that I've noticed any difference

PlymouthMaid1 · 27/12/2016 13:06

Drain and rinse, always looks a bit gruesome and I think some have added sugar too.

dementedpixie · 27/12/2016 13:06

Drain and rinse. The liquid is thick, gloopy and probably salty too

WeightyMatters · 27/12/2016 13:06

Drain. Used to rinse but cba these days.

MiladyThesaurus · 27/12/2016 13:07

I just tip the whole lot in.

bowchikkawowwow · 27/12/2016 13:07

Yes that's the gassy part that makes your fart.

Bean juice ,bean juice is good for your heart

I drain, squirt some fresh water straight from the tap into the tin simultaneously managing to spray my face, arms and all surrounding surfaces with a mixture of water and kidney bean goo.

Every. Single. Time.

Watto1 · 27/12/2016 13:10

I bung the whole lot in.

rookiemere · 27/12/2016 13:13

Drain and rinse unless they are in chilli sauce.
Not sure why I drain and rinse, but must have been told to do so when younger and the habit has stuck.

AfroPuffs · 27/12/2016 13:15

All in for flavour and to help thicken!

sooperdooper · 27/12/2016 13:22

Drain & rinse, I always thought it's like the water/oil in cans of tuna & not supposed to eat it but it looks gross & it'd make chilli too sloppy adding that much liquid I reckon

SharingMichelle · 27/12/2016 13:24

So the vast majority drain and rinse. A couple of brave souls tip the lot in.

You're right, the bean liquid IS gloopy and a bit grim looking. Is it just water and salt? It seems slightly viscous. Would it thicken and add to the flavour AfroPuffs?

I just slop it all in, but I usually buy the kidney beans that come in a chilli sauce, so rinsing and draining would defeat the point

soundsystem · 27/12/2016 13:38

Drain and rinse, unless I'm making rice and peas, in which case the whole lot goes in.

PurpleMcPants · 27/12/2016 13:42

I used to drain then came to my senses and started tipping the whole lot in (think it was on Jamie's 30 minute dinners when he did that and I had a lightbulb moment!).
I do it with everything (that's in water now), kidney beans, sweetcorn etc. It makes not the slightest difference to fart frequency! Confused

reallybadidea · 27/12/2016 13:50

I just tip the whole lot in unless the mince mixture looks watery. There's no salt in cans of kidney beans in water.

ChuckSnowballs · 27/12/2016 13:52

You can use the juice to make meringue.

I drain and rinse - not tried this yet but I know people who swear by it.

BusterGonad · 27/12/2016 13:53

I drain and rinse as the liquid is foul and makes me want to barf!

Spam88 · 27/12/2016 13:56

I drain and rinse (just in the tin). It's just water I think? But it's properly thick and nasty...

GetAHaircutCarl · 27/12/2016 13:58

Drain and rinse here.

Squeegle · 28/12/2016 08:49

Whole lot in, why wouldn't you?

Whitelisbon · 28/12/2016 09:43

I drain, then use the water to make egg-free meringues, or as an egg replacer in cakes.
