I Mnetted a gammon

Following on from the chicken thread, now in classics, I'm sharing what I did with my gammon.
There's just two of us, me and 14 yr old DD.
Obviously, before someone points it out, you won't be full on the meat part of the meal, also, if you see one meal on a plate in the photo, obviously there were two, we had one each.

That is totally fab IHave!!
Four main meals plus soup, very well done. My favourite would be the gammon and pease pudding.

Other ideas for gammon;
with cabagge, parsley sauce, and potatoes
chicken and ham pie
ham and leek pie
ham and mushroom risotto
haricot bean, carrot, and ham soup
ham & mushroom in cream sauce pasta
pasta carbonara.

I'd better buy a gammon soon! Grin

Love your plates esp the pasta bowls

I also love gammon. No way I could make it do that many meals. I'd want to eat it all b

Great ideas - a couple more : )

Loaded skins - pieces in a tomato garlic sauce with potato wedges topped with cheese

The pasta bowls are Denby, I love them too.
I had lots of fun found it, cooking is my hobby anyway and I wanted to see how far I could make it go without getting too silly, I've fine a chicken too but still have a couple of dishes left to make so will put them all up together next week.
I think I'll do a brisket next, and thanks for the new gammon ideas for next time.

I always mumsnet my gammon, but much less imaginatively (gammon, eggs and chips; gammon, mac and cheese etc). Lentil soup with gammon stock is the kids absolute favourite though.

Anotherusernamechange · 05/02/2016 13:46

We love a gammon. Anything left over is grated with a cheese grater by DH and added to an omelette. He calls it a Gomlette.

Allalonenow · 05/02/2016 14:32

I love those pasta bowls too, I was wondering if they were Denby. I've got the Denby "salsa" (dark red with white inside) pasta bowls and they are so useful.

Another use for a small amount of left over gammon is croque monsieur, a quick and tasty lunch.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/02/2016 14:39

We love lentil soup too, so cheap and comforting, it's great served with fried egg rolls.
I love thinking up new ways to use basics, I have some good chicken dishes too, just need to get the last couple made so I can post, this week I am also trying to cook buying as little as possible, so far I have bought one bag of beansprouts since Monday, and should be on track with maybe only eggs until Wednesday, except for milk which I'm not counting as I need my dozen cups of milky tea a day.

The gravy boat is Denby too, it was a gift, I adore nice kitchenware

I love your Gammon ideas brillohair . They all look delicious.

I also covet Denby Halo and if I don't get some for my birthday I'm going to kill the bastard buy it for myself.

Allalonenow · 05/02/2016 15:44

Ohh yes, I love nice crockery too, and I like drinks in the right type of glass!

Looking forward to your chicken dishes Wine

PersisFord · 05/02/2016 16:06

Did you use the slow cooker cooking fluid for your stock? When I do gammon I do it in water in the sc but usually just throw the water away....:

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/02/2016 16:21

Yes I did, I didn't add water but saved any juices then diluted with water until the taste was right for not too salty, but well flavoured stock.
I planned the meals and divided immediately so the portions could be frozen labelled, no chance of picking then, and also I know exactly what each foil tub contains and is for, that doesn't have to be exact, but something like 'gammon for pasta', means I know it is shredded and will make a pasta meal, I can decided which one when I come to use it.
'Gammon schnitzel', again tells me how it's been cut, but could be gammon with pineapple glaze and new potatoes/green veg etc.
I use the disposable foil trays as they are easy to label, stack well and no more bloody random tupperware lids falling out of cupboards

Ok, I'm going to do it. Thanks!

FelixFelix · 05/02/2016 19:54

Oh I wish we could get pease pudding and stottie down here in W. Yorkshire Sad

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/02/2016 20:06

My friend had been to Durham that weekend and brought them back for me, old schoolfriend but we both live near Glasgow now.
I make my own pease pudding usually, no hope with stotties though, I can't bake for shit, even though I own a Kitchenaid.
