Do any of you add other things to a jug of bisto?

I love gravy but my other half doesn't like bisto, he likes proper home made gravy with stock and peppercorns etc but I haven't got time to faff for evening meals I just want to add hot water to bisto lol. Is there anything I could add to give it a twist? Maybe Tom purée or Worcestershire sauce etc??

I don't judge other people who like Bisto, I just personally think it tastes nasty. I don't usually make gravy except when I am making a roast or poutine, although I have been known to make onion gravy from time to time. I'd not have gravy with chops for example.

I'd much rather have nothing than have Bisto!

Hideous black gloop for people who are scared/dont know how to make proper flavoursome gravy, it just is sorry. Nothing snobby,just the truth!

I know how to make gravy for a roast, but if I decide at 5.30 that we are having sausages and mash for tea then we can have some Bisto or no gravy at all.

My gran's mince and tatties was the best ever. Her secret? Onion Bisto.

You can get low-salt Bisto. I love it - sometimes caramelise an onion and add that, and some black pepper.

Sometimes I make mash just so I can smother it in Bisto. Mmmmmmm.

Do this all the time lol!
Cream butter, add some flour, mix togetter. Put gravy over the mix and hot water mix together and season accordingly! Perfect gravy that falls eberybody. Trust my so yummy!

I always use bisto!

Take meat out of the pan, and put roasting tin on the hob.
Pour vegetable water into pan.
Sprinkle bisto gravy granules in and whisk, scraping up meaty bits.
Add splosh of wine and/or mint sauce

Lovely.

As pp have said, it's the granules that are the problem - they're far too salty & taste disgusting. I used Golden Fry onion gravy powder for almost 40 years - it was gorgeous - I used to send it to one child in London and the other in Liverpool... Then the bastards stopped making it..! DS (who was 35) said sadly, 'No more gravy like Mum made' Smile
I've tried all kinds since then, but have never found any that is even okay... So I've (almost) given up gravy Sad

Not a fan of bisto either, I know how he feels!!

I use a stock cube and a bit of marmite if we are in a rush, otherwise add red wine and any meat juices, onions etc

Should add I use aldi own granules with that but very minuscule amounts if using red wine as it thickens nicely without it :)

Grin gravy snobbery !!

If I can be arsed I make real gravy but if there is no stock or fat granules are ok. It's the exact same stuff you would get in a chippy!

Things I've put in mine

A shit load of pepper
Garlic (actually very nice)
Mixed herbs (that was interesting)
Cooked onions

If you bob it in the microwave for two mins after you have mixed it up it thinks it up.

ickle I use Aldi one too. I think it's a bit better than bisto

I'm a foodie, and I always use the meat drippings to make gravy on a Sunday, but I also have jars of Bisto Best beef, lamb, chicken and pork gravy powders for weekday meals - I might add some wine or use water from vegetables, but I find Bisto perfectly acceptable. When I was a kid, the only Bisto available was the stuff that comes in a brown packet - which is basically just cornflour with some caramel for colour. My 'job' was to shake it up in a gravy shaker (remember those?) with cold water until Mum was ready to make the gravy.

No one has ever complained about my gravy - either it's OK, or I have polite friends and family! My Bisto has never turned out either black or gloopy, btw - not sure how you manage that!

That's how I do mine, with the old fashioned Bisto gravy powder. It's no good on its own but it's perfect with the meat juices, veg water or stock. I find it easier to blend than flour and I prefer to taste, colour and consistency.

Granules are okay for weeknight emergencies but mine go untouched in the cupboard for so many months at a time that I usually end up chucking them out. I would not DREAM of serving gravy made with granules if I'd made a proper roast.
