Sorbet! My gluten and dairy free dh's favourite. Tesco sells gf df cornetto style ice creams too, amazing they are!

JimmyGreavesMoustache · 21/09/2015 09:30

could you make a rice pudding with non-dairy milk?
serve with a compote of some kind, or fresh fruit and nuts? or some peanut brittle on top?

juneau · 21/09/2015 09:30

Apple and blackberry crumble (make the crumble with gluten-free flour). You can buy dairy free 'ice cream' to go with it.

juneau · 21/09/2015 09:31

Coconut milk makes delicious rice pudding ... if you like coconut!

LooseSeal · 21/09/2015 09:32

Fruit mousse made with silken tofu?

tassisssss · 21/09/2015 09:43

Annoyingly the delicious sorbet in Aldi was either not GF or not dairy free but can look elsewhere. I'd previously thought that would be the way to go. Though the very nice dairy free ice-cream in the hexagonal black box goes down a treat.

Hmm crumble with GF flour is an option...could add nuts to detract from the grittiness of GF. Thanks all.

Am considering a Nigella GF blackberry and apple cake

What would you make without the dietary restrictions?

You can buy frozen gf/df puff pastry in Tescos, and it makes a lovely open apple tart which is v easy to do and a real treat for someone gf

CMOTDibbler · 21/09/2015 09:46

Or, Tom Kerridges orange cake is v nice and doesn't need the ice cream

SunnySomer · 21/09/2015 09:46

Stewed spiced plums with gf shortbread?

JimmyGreavesMoustache · 21/09/2015 09:46

mentioning nigella reminds me - the clementice cake is lovely

Bimblepops · 21/09/2015 09:47

This Lemon Polenta cake is absolutely delicious. Substitute the butter for non-dairy like marge and you're sorted!

This is amazing, I make it a lot (without the poncy strawberries)

Konserve · 21/09/2015 09:51

jelly or fruit compote?

MagicalMrsMistoffelees · 21/09/2015 09:52

I use dairy alternatives when cooking all the time eg soy milk in muffins and pancakes. Taste just as good!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/09/2015 09:52

Peach Melba with non dairy ice cream.

Wisteria1979 · 21/09/2015 09:56

Orange and almond cake? They are beautifully moist but light and fluffy so will go nicely as a pudd. Carluccios sell them but am sure there is a celeb chef version I have seen around as well.

Wisteria1979 · 21/09/2015 09:57

Similar to the nigellas clementine cake above I think!

rumbleinthrjungle · 21/09/2015 10:04

Nigella's Olive Oil chocolate cake - it works brilliantly with Dove Farm gluten free plain flour which is in most supermarkets. Gorgeous moist squidgy chocolate cake, very easy to make and lovely with alpro soya cream or Tesco vanilla iced dessert (their vanilla dairy free ice cream)

Any fruit crumble with Dove Farm flour crumble topping (gluten free oats are nice mixed into the crumble topping if oats can be tolerated) with alpro soya custard or alpro cream (both very nice)

Trifle - gluten/dairy free sponge cake (again Dove Farm self raising works very well for me) fruit, jelly, alpro soya custard and whip up another jelly with soya milk or soya cream instead of water which makes a setting mousse to replace the double cream layer.

You can also fairly easily find biscotti which is gluten/dairy free which is nice with coffee or crumbled up on top of ice cream/dessert.

rumbleinthrjungle · 21/09/2015 10:04

sorry, just realised you said no chocolate! Blush

The website Elanas Pantry is really good for gluten free deserts:

My mum makes a creme caramel with orange juice instead of cream. And an orange cake made with ground almonds, no flour. Do a Google search for "parev Passover recipes": they'll be both flour and dairy free as they're to go with meat meals over the Jewish festival of Passover (when we eat no wheat products).

This is a really tasty gluten free pear & almond cake - www.eatdrinkcook.co.uk/gluten-free-recipe-pear-almond-cake/
