actually i do use a catering tub of thai green curry paste... that probably counts... i think it's really just lemongrass, chilli and a load of herbs i can't be bothered replicating.
i think the tub is about five years old, by the way, one teaspoon will blow your head off so you don't use much.

would that be cream Pruni?

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2006 19:35

i used to enjoy eating pate until dh referred to it as 'creamed meat', pruni. put me right off.

and you're right, iota, i would definitely add cream to a recipe but there is something weird about the gloopy shininess of those sauces. i remember hearing a radio programm about how they whip them up so that they emulsify and then add loads of stabilisers to keep them 'up'. blee.

Oh Pruni, did you have to?! I rather liked pate... .

mrsnoah · 22/11/2006 20:01

Well, very handy but with dd1 it would be a case of wind her up and watch her hop (for 3hrs with dilated pupils!)

Raggydoll · 22/11/2006 20:24

hmmm 'fajota' ????

Ooh I am a complete liar we have had the Meridian korma sauce in a jar

it was bloody good and I would buy it again if for some reason I couldn't cook the real thing

earlysbird · 22/11/2006 20:40

packets, never, jars, sometimes, rarely for DTs as the salt content is usually ridiculous, amongst other yukky things...

Enid · 23/11/2006 11:15

lol lol lol at this thread

Recommendations from Enid's Nest, Transport Caff (just off the A30, in that layby where that odd bloke got done for dogging)

Sainsbury's Pasta in a packet - cheese and broccoli flavour - 'nicer' than the big brands but salty - goes well with sausages and raw carrot and celery if you cannot bear not to.

Dolmio's White Sauce for Lasagne - if, like me, you seem to have lots of bolognaise sauce in the freezer you can chuck together a kdis lasagne with this. I don't think I would feed it to friends but it is perfectly acceptable for kids - I like it too.

Enid · 23/11/2006 11:17

Oh and how could I forget, Pataks Korma cook in sauce, mixed with a tin of chick peas and a sliced chicken breast - cook in oven for an hour, makes a great kids curry.

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2006 11:20

LOL at 'dogging' ref.

I use chilli packet sauce mix for dh and I (lo's dislike chilli)...but I don't use packet sauce for family meals. Oddly I apply more rigorous nutritional standards to my children's food than I do mine.

Bozza · 23/11/2006 11:49

I don't think that is odd at all hmc

Bozza · 23/11/2006 11:51

My Mum's homemade "gravy" is pretty much just watered down meat juice - very thin and watery - more like stock really.

Tortington · 23/11/2006 11:54

i persojnally wouldnt give a flying toss what others thought.

the idea of asking "if its ok to do this or will people think ill of me"

rather than

is this good for us

which wasn;t the question btw - seems either ill thought out - or plain bizarre.

TheHighwayCod · 23/11/2006 11:56

NO ONE
i repeat NO ONE is Nearer To God Than Cod

for one thing I rhyme

expatinscotland · 23/11/2006 11:56

I don't like gravy granules, but some package sauces are GREAT.

My mother has a pal back home who makes a chilli packet sauce called CinChilli (cuz her name is Cindy), and it's the bees knees.

Mmmm.

renaldo · 23/11/2006 12:00

homemade cheese sauce made in the microwave then blended with a stick blender is easy peasy and tastes of cheese
