ooh no!

They are a terrible rip off so much better to do yourself!

Also have dodgy things in

Bozza · 23/11/2006 12:06

LOL custy. Is it busty for short? Yes cod I noticed the rhyming, actually why I posted that because it sounded quite good I thought.

Bozza · 23/11/2006 12:07

expat what do you use for gravy?

meowmix · 23/11/2006 12:08

nah prefer making my own so can be creative. LOVE making pesto, v therapeutic and cheese sauce as see that as licence to scarf grated cheese in manner of starved woman. But I only cook 2x a week so would probably use them if I had to cook every night.

The trick to get homemade chilli and bolognaise sauces to look and taste good (without resorting to jars) is to use a LOT of tomato puree. If you can afford it, buy a jar of sundried tomatoes in oil and puree those.

I use ready made curry pastes (Pataks and any old Thai one) because I am too lazy to make from scratch and also keep a jar of chopped chillis and grated ginger in the fridge. But don't really use jars as such - over the years I have managed to find/adapt recipes for all the things I would have used jars from in my pre-domestic goddess days!

BUT I am guilty of using packets for gravy because I have never really mastered the art of making it from scratch (apart from an onion one for with sausages).

I thicken gravy with flour or cornflour and use an organic stock cube as well as the meat juices and teh water that teh veg were steamed in and maybe some wine

Bozza · 23/11/2006 12:17

Do you save it then for other meals, eg DH likes it on meatloaf?

Bozza · 23/11/2006 12:17

Also my meat is not really juicy!
