Do you all make birthday cakes or are you a shop bought hussy like myself?

I did once and it looked like someone had sat on it.

Feel the need to make one for dd1.

But she wants a fairy/princess/ballerina/pink one and it would be v easy to toddle into m&s and buy one.

Shop bought

Definitely .

magnolia1 · 05/10/2006 13:43

Luckily my SIL makes all of ours but otherwise it would be shop bought!

belgo · 05/10/2006 13:45

I make them - but - from a pack. Does that count,or is that cheating?

TwigTwoolett · 05/10/2006 13:45

make 'em cos I like to

bloody easy to make the cake and decorating it is fun and satisfying and I like my cakes looking un-machine made

DastardlyDevilishDior · 05/10/2006 13:45

Hussy.

I made ds' first birthday cake and no-one ate it except me. My friend makes her children's cakes and they are amazing, but she has no wish to make them for others unfortunately!

TwigTwoolett · 05/10/2006 13:46

BAke, defo.

I made DS a chocolate hedgehog cake this year, which collapsed a bit - I anxiously asked DH if it still looked like a hedgehog - "yes, just one thats been squashed by a car"

Bake it you lazy mare!! There was a recipe on here ab it ago about a girly cake - think they used a bowl to make the cake, turned it upside down and iced it then rammed a babie in teh top! Cake was teh skirt, obv.

I think KBear made one like that.

northender · 05/10/2006 13:47

ds had a home made one for his actual birthday and shop bought one for his party (3 wks later). I nearly had heart failure looking at the ingredient list. more colourings and other additives than you could shake a stick at. ds loved it though!

My Mum makes the cake and I decorate it. Mum makes and decorates birthday and wedding cakes etc so I beg, steal and borrow the special cutters, icings and ideas from her.

This year I'm going to do (or should that be "attempt" ) a mermaid cake.

Gobbledispook · 05/10/2006 13:51

Shop bought here.

MamaGhoul · 05/10/2006 13:51

Grrr Dior!

NO OLIVE - BAKE IT!! Go on, she'll love it if you do.

DastardlyDevilishDior · 05/10/2006 13:54

My favourite shop bought cake is M&S's caterpillar one. It is smothered in thick chocolate...mmmmmm.

TwigTwoolett · 05/10/2006 13:54

yes is flour, butter, sugar, eggs (can pro up to 8,8,8,4 in 10" tin etc) shove it all in and whisk for 2 minutes then bake at 180 for up to an hour

g'wan .. you may like it .. and its fun to lick the bowls

oliveoil · 05/10/2006 13:55
