I'm organic when I can afford it, and non-organic when I can't........basically it's EXPENSIVE!

Medulla · 27/09/2006 19:30

Can't get it here, not reached the island of Cyprus

serenity · 27/09/2006 19:30

Too expensive.

snowleopard · 27/09/2006 19:31

Like to get it when I can, but they don't tend to have organic stuff at the local shops so I can only really get it when I go to a big supermarket - or even more expensive farmer's market.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 27/09/2006 19:31

LOL at this.

I think most of us are organic, tbh. Its a rare lifeform that can survive without carbon...

FrayedKnot · 27/09/2006 19:35

Ooh Medulla, just teh thought of those heavenly cyprus potatoes - never tasted a potato like it in the UK!

You don;t exactly "need" organic for flavour over there, do you!

Medulla · 27/09/2006 19:38

I am really disappointed with the standard of the fruit and veg over here. Maybe I'll find out just how good the cypriot stuff is next week when I get back to the UK for a holiday.

YellowFeathers · 27/09/2006 19:38

Because its too expensive.
If its organic then surely it should be cheaper to buy because whatever it is, hasn't had nasty chemicals put on/into it and i grown naturally, yes?

Doesn't make sense IMO. Maybe thats just me being too thick.

FrayedKnot · 27/09/2006 19:51

Medulla I have good memories of food in Cyprus but I am talking 5-6 years ago, maybe things have changed.

MamaGlamourPuss · 27/09/2006 20:06

I'm not organic either - too expensive for my budget. I just try to buy fresh food, as little processedd stuff as poss and keep it reasonbly healthy.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 27/09/2006 20:11

I do eat 90 % organic. The only exceptions are where I buy local, which I think is more important, or where the kids want some fruit that a local shop has tempted them with. Grow a lot of it ourselves.

It just makes me PMSL to see it used in this way. NO I am not silicon based, thank you, my electrons cannae take it.

acnebride · 27/09/2006 20:12

mainly cost
also because i want to support local market/ shops, which round here don't often do organic fruit and veg
and i would always buy 'british' rather than 'foreign organic'
try to buy 'british organic' if i can - would ideally go for a box but don't feel i can afford it atm
the one thing i still try to afford is organic milk for ds

MamaGlamourPuss · 27/09/2006 20:39

ooh get MaloryFelicityKendallTowers

I grow a lot of my own organic fruit and veg, herbs as well. Keep my own organic chickens for eggs.

I rarely buy supermarket organic because its expensive and money is a bit tight at the minute. But also because of air miles, most organic stuff comes from further away than non-organic stuff. Any fruit or veg I haven't got in the garden I try to buy from the village greengrocers ratehr than Tescos, and the village shop doesn't stock organic.

GeorginaA · 30/09/2006 16:47

Too expensive
