I may possibly have just made the most foul and disgusting dish ever

... I am a bung-it in cook and most of the time it works

.. I think I've just buggered up royally though

chicken legs and thighs, onion, carrots, spinach, stock, tomato, mustard seeds, chilli, mixed herbs and bay leaf

it looks truly rank .. it has that kind of pasty colour you associate with very sick people and yet I still put it in the oven to see what it'll taste like

is there any hope?

sounds nice enough

ProfessorGrammaticus · 11/09/2006 15:14

I think there could be - Annabel karmel's chicken and peaches is much, much worse. Only thing to have made DS1 gag - ever!!

Tommy · 11/09/2006 15:17

should taste OK though I know what you mean about the colour - sometimes it just doesn't look right.

My one and only ever time at trying to cook polenta (thought it was the sort of thing that all good vegetarians should eat ) was so disguctung that even DH wouldn't eat it and threw it away and got a pizza out of the freezer

I'm sorry, but my mother's liver and beetroot soup is (well, was -- fortunately she's seen the light now) the most foul and disgusting dish ever. The rest of you are rank amateurs.

Twiglett · 11/09/2006 15:19

liver and beetroot soup

If this is a competition, I once made (from a magazine recipe) a pasta sauce using parmesan and lemon which looked, smelt and tasted exactly like vomit. Thanks to the lemon it even gave you that acidy feeling in the back of your throat.

Twiglett · 11/09/2006 15:21

LOL

btw casserole smells like vomit

do you have any pizzas in your freezer?!

Marina · 11/09/2006 15:24

Spinach is the rogue ingredient IMO. I once served a spinach and mashed sardine special to my baby ds and he barfed the whole lot into my and dh's hair at 2 in the morning.
I think it was soupy who said he would grow up to be a food critic.
And I bet you have diced the carrots.
Call it a Billy Connolly Surprise...I'm sure your dh will be on the phone to the takeaway quicker than you can say, A bucket please...

Twiglett · 11/09/2006 15:25

you see I made the mistake of checking my freezer and I have 3 .. THREE ... 3 ... bags of frozen spinach

OP posts:
Marina · 11/09/2006 15:26

Next time curry it lightly with plenty of garlic and lemon juice and do not let it anywhere near chicken or tomatoes...

CheesyFeet · 11/09/2006 15:28

A large squirt of tomato puree and some chilli powder/sauce cures a lot of culinary disasters ime

lucycat · 11/09/2006 17:29

Have you got any gravy browning?

at least it would have some colour?

motherinferior · 11/09/2006 17:38

Or bung it in a lentil soup, or a chickpea curry. In its place, chopped frozen spinach is fine stuff. But you have to keep it in its place.

An ex and I once cooked the most spectacularly horrible meal of boil in the bag kippers mashed into scrambled egg, on soggy toast made with half-defrosted brown plastic bread.

motherinferior · 11/09/2006 17:38

You can combine it with tomatoes in said chickpea curry, honestly you can.

Chuck it out now. If really pushed, make pasta with garlic and olive oil.

TheVoiceOfReasonQV · 11/09/2006 17:42

chilli and spinach is whats wrong.

beckybrastraps · 11/09/2006 17:43

I love spinach, but it can't take cooking. You have to bung it in at the last minute.

SoupDragon · 11/09/2006 17:45

It doesn't sound that bad. Spinach als=ways stinks IMO. Usually like pond sludge.

schneebly · 11/09/2006 17:45

I made chicken and rice soup yesterday - proper stock and everything and put too much rice in and it ended up as just a big pot of stodgy rice that no-one except DS2 (20 months and a glutton) would eat.

If your dinner looks rank you probably wont enjoy it even if it tastes passable!

iota · 11/09/2006 17:46

can't you csave the meat and make a different sauce? with no spinach

Twiglett · 11/09/2006 18:52

'snice

I yam still the queen of bung-it

OP posts:
Twiglett · 11/09/2006 18:53

iota · 11/09/2006 18:53
