About 2 years ago dh and i suddenly became pretty skint.

Now that I've adjusted (it took me a while) i've pretty much nailed the weekly shop and recipes so that we still eat well for roughly a quarter of what we used to spend. We eat a lot of soups, pasta sauces, stews and bulk a lot of things out with carbs so that we don't ... you know... die. (only messin'!)

I had some leftover rice once and threw it into bowl of tomato soup for my DS lunch. He loved it and it's now his fave. My mum then told me how her mother made her tomato soup and mash. Tried. Loved... Actually that might be his fave.

Do you guys have any fave food combos? Please share!

Loving all the peanut butter combos but surely the king of these is peanut butter on toast with salad cream!?

Cheese and mango chutney or honey sounds great but have you tried Jamie Oliver's idea of cheese, honey and a sprinkle of ground coffee - it works :)

Snowfrinkles · 22/02/2014 16:58

And marmite on toast dunked into hot chocolate...

frenchfancy · 22/02/2014 18:08

Baked beans served with creamed leeks. Delicious (particularly good served with fish cakes)

How do you keep the Wotsits on the toast?

Another peanut butter and marmite fan here. Have had bacon and marmalade sandwiches ans wasn't convinced...

Mars Bar toasties. Haven't had one since i was at school partly cos anyone I tell irl looks at me like I am some sort of weirdo bit seriously good and you don't need the whole bAr, just til the sandwich with slices of it. It has to be white bread and it caremelises where it oozes out. Yum.

Pitta bread filled with chips, hummus and chilli sauce. Used to regularly have it on the way home from the pub in my younger days.

Peanut butter and cucumber sandwiches are my favourite but I'm intrigued by the PB and Marmite combo...

Fruit shortcake biscuits topped with cheddar. Or Christmas cake with cheddar...mmm...

Atbeckandcall · 22/02/2014 18:54

Pics you've just reminded me of my fil's favourite. Crispy bacon and Mars bar sandwiches. Mmmm

trinitybleu · 22/02/2014 18:56

themissuz it's also good to dip your fries into your McFlurry.....

mushy peas with salt, vinegar and tomato sauce mixed in. Goes brown but tastes amazing.

cold Yorkshire pudding with salt and vinegar.

TeeManyMartoonis · 22/02/2014 18:56

Marmite and marmalade on toast.

Loved it as a child - it now has the added bonus of being a good hangover cure!

Twix dipped in salsa.

Can't wait to try a bacon and mars bar sandwich!

expatmumsy · 22/02/2014 19:10

Chopped liver and apricot jam or vegemite and strawberry jam on cheap nasty white bread.

Dh loves a peanut butter, bacon and banana sandwich

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 22/02/2014 19:17

This is my favourite ever thread.

I am partial to hula hoops dipped in Philadelphia and sweet chilli sauce

TarteAuxRiz · 22/02/2014 19:50

'We make our own peanut butter because we have an expensive habit. ' HOW??? I need that recipe!

CuntyBunty · 22/02/2014 19:56

I'm so ashamed:

Hash brown and tomato juice sandwich
Raisin sandwich (it's a bit like bread and butter pudding)
Cheesy Doritos and Hummous

momb · 22/02/2014 19:59

pretty much anything with cold Yorkshire puddings:
jam
marmite
honey
salad cream
just hot gravy
peanut butter
hot stew
soup
lime marmalade
etc etc

Blueberry234 · 22/02/2014 20:04

Crunchy peanut butter with branston pickle sandwiches

butterfliesinmytummy · 22/02/2014 20:06

Bought a box of choc covers crisps in wholefoods yesterday, and there is a brand called Chuao that sells bars of chocolate with bits of ready salted crisp in them, yum!

BikeRunSki · 22/02/2014 20:15

My dad used to make sandwiches with banana and sardine or goat's cheese and Gorgonzola fillings. They were horrible!

notsoperfect · 22/02/2014 20:49

If you like peanut butter and marmite, try toast with marmite and avocado. It is lovely.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2014 20:56

Chips with bisto gravy dipped into chilli sauce. yum!

Atbeckandcall · 22/02/2014 20:57

Just on the phone to mum and mentioned this thread, she reminded me of a sandwich she used to make me. Dairylea, raisins and lettuce (apparently it can't be iceberg, the best was cos or little gem). I remember them very fondly.

WhizzFucker · 22/02/2014 21:15

These combinations are making me feel sick but I can't stop reading.

Snowfrinkles · 22/02/2014 22:37

Notsoperfect that sounds lovely - I have crumpets with marmite and tomatoes but got to try avocado now :)

Whatareyou.. You've just reminded me of chilli dipping sauce - sliced potatoes, melted cheese and chilli dipping sauce - heaven

YoullNeedATray · 22/02/2014 23:21

So ... marmite, peanut butter and avocado on toast has to be worth trying?
