OK, so its not exactly home made couscous and wholemeal pitta, but I wanted to do something they will actually eat!

Ham sandwiches
Egg mayo sandwiches
cubes of cheese
crisps
little cooked sausages
balls of honeydew & watermelon (hurrah I get to use friend's melon baller!!) mixed up in a bowl
bowls of green & red grapes mixed up

Birthday cake
mini fruit muffins
mars bar crispie
party ring biscuits

There is absolutely no point in putting out cucumber/carrot sticks as the little blighters will just leave them - as seen at every other party this year!

Hope it sounds OK I'm usually a real cheat and just pay for everyone to got a fun factory

that sounds good to me. and if my dd was coming she'd be fine as no nasty colourings in amonst that lot by the sounds of it.

MamaG · 20/07/2006 13:17

Oh good - yes, I didnt want loads of horrible processed food - all the cakey things will be home made too so its not too bad is it!!

Most gets left anyway. How about garlic bread. Was at a party last week where the host had made ham & jam sandwiches(not together!) and couldn't believe how many children said they didn't eat ham or jam-FGS!

poisson · 20/07/2006 13:18

the melon wil be used as ammo

MamaG · 20/07/2006 13:18

Really? I thought every child ate jam!

MamaG · 20/07/2006 13:19

lol at ammo!

Thats the reason why the sausage & cheese aren't on sticks.

If I've got a leftover sausage, do you wanna drive to Cumbria for it ?

Did a joint party with a friend a couple of years ago, I suggested ham sandwhiches and cheese ones, she insisted we do jam too (I made all food) not one child ate the jam ones.

KBear · 20/07/2006 14:07

Sounds like good party food to me. What time do you want us? Save me a party ring! My kids love jam too!

trinityrhino · 20/07/2006 14:11

ounds good to me, my dd nearly 7 would have a good chomp at almost all of that

MamaG · 20/07/2006 14:23

pretty much what we did for a bunch of 5 year olds at the weekend - but had cheese and ham (separate ) rolls, a bowl of strawberries (no melon ) - and we did the carrot sticks and cucumber - and they did go. The sausages went amazingly quickly too. The rolls were the things we had most left over of.

CrocodileKate · 20/07/2006 14:38

Both of mine love to eat ham on its own so maybe just roll some of the ham up as well as putting some on sandwiches.

MamaG · 20/07/2006 14:41

I wonder if I'm being a ponce by balling the melon

OP posts:
throckenholt · 20/07/2006 14:42

do your kids eat melon balls ? If so - then do them - but not too many unless you are happy to scoff them later.

MamaG · 20/07/2006 14:44

well they eat melon....I just thought they'd look pretty in balls!

As the grapes are round too - green & purple balls in one bowl, yellow & red in another...

KBear · 20/07/2006 14:46

depends if you've got time I suppose, don't see why not.

Greensleeves · 20/07/2006 14:51

Oooh, I haven't had a jam sandwich for years.

MamaG · 20/07/2006 14:55

you just know I'll ball about 3 and go "sod it"
