on the front was a picture of said victuals presented on a silver platter with a curl of celery and a radish flower.

What makes me laugh about these posh cat foods is that they dress up the packaging but if you check the ingrediants its the same crap as the cheap stuff.

Do you know what actually does into cat food? ITs not nice.

bits of bollox etc that missed going into the burgers!
those adverts on the telly make me laugh, where its shot in soft focus a nd some beautiful women serves up what looks like a roast dinner to an overweight cat.

trinityrhino · 21/06/2006 19:49

'christ on a bike' thats hilarious

VVVQV · 21/06/2006 19:50

lol - will we all have to eat dinners out of a pouch when we hit retirement age then cod?

Is that what meals on wheels really are?

I thought stuff like Science Diet etc was better. Certainly less disgusting than the moist stuff.

harpsichordcarrier · 21/06/2006 19:59

oh god that poncey pet food in a pouch
"chicken chausseur in a piquant mouse sauce"
FFS
reminds me of the last days of the Roman Empire
I mean I am very fond of my bunny and all that but she gets scrag end of manky carrot freshly picked dandelion IF she's lucky

NotQuiteCockney · 21/06/2006 19:59

Oh, and Science Diet never has photos of suggested servings. QED.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/06/2006 20:00

To be fair, hc, bunnies eat their own poo. So fancy food is definately wasted on them.

FrayedKnot · 21/06/2006 20:04

Could you NOT go into the contents of a cat food pouch / foil trays & the like, please?

Our cat eats them because if I open a tin she will only eat half at a time and the rest goes manky and then she won;t eat it at all, so it's less wasteful..but I don;t want to know, or I will have to hand over all feeding duties to DH.

What should I do, poach her a salmon? Now that would look better on a silver platetr, I agree.

VVVQV · 21/06/2006 20:16

Smell of "wet" cat food makes me want to yak.

Gingerbear · 21/06/2006 20:28

Frayedknot, put a plastic lid on it and bung the tin in the fridge.
Pooch gets Chappie, cheap and stinks of fish.

Gingerbear · 21/06/2006 20:29

VVV, you ain't smelled a thing til you have had a whiff of a freshly opened tin of Chappie at 7am when 8 weeks PG.
Even without morning sickness I want to barf.

harpsichordcarrier · 21/06/2006 20:29

hmmm yes but cats do eat grass. and spiders, and frogs, and mice. and lick their arses, with or without a tangy herby sauce

Gingerbear · 21/06/2006 20:31

Moondog, was it Co-op's own brand (fairtrade, organic, from third world herrings?)

VVVQV · 21/06/2006 20:32

Dogs eat shit though. And not just their own.

They also like to roll in it too?

Makes me wonder why people ever have pets

Gingerbear · 21/06/2006 20:37

My dog only eats organic cow shit I will have you know -aka field pizza - extra fibre, minerals and vitamins.

Don't go NEAR him after he has sampled those tasty snacks. He likes crispy thin crust better than deep-pan.

nooka · 21/06/2006 21:20

What's happened to plain old mushy cat food? My cat will only eat supermeat (I think his teeth are a bit iffy) and the only brand that still do it are Whiskas and they only have four varieties, which he regularly goes off. Everything else has turned into jelly/gravy/pate (which is not smooth). My cat wakes me up at 5am to demand cat food, and then again to object to what I've given him

harpsichordcarrier · 21/06/2006 21:21

my dog used to like to roll around in fox poo and have a little snaffle of it too, I wouldn't wonder
now fox poo really is minging

moondog · 21/06/2006 21:43

didn't notice that ginge
science diet my arse

edam · 21/06/2006 21:47

My vet put our cat on bloody expensive Science Diet, then a year later insisted we should change it to even more bloody expensive Royal Canin dry food. FFS. Am sure they are all on backhanders.

Although with dry food, at least when they get hairballs, the sick isn't quite so awful...
