the foulest thing I have ever cooked...

I was dreaming of a steak and onion pie the other day. So I casseroled my steak and onions and put it in a pie. I have got no idea what happened. It had a really funny aftertaste. All I can think of is that somehow I burnt the sauce. To me it is the worst I have ever cooked and I can feel it repeating on me now and giving me indigestion. DH loved it (how weird).

What is the worst thing you have ever cooked?

Lemon chicken with sundried tomatoes. Lemon chicken recipe did not include sundried tomatoes but i thought it woukd be nice. OMG I can't eat sundried tomatoes without puking now! Yuk!

A beef Ragu with pasta from that recent Italian cooking tv show with the pretty dark haired lady and her sisters. It was so shit I couldn't eat any of it. Should really have known as there was no garlic or herbs in the recipe....which for Italian pasta is just wrong.

This is it - simply Italian is what it was called! Never make it!

winnybella · 21/12/2012 22:01

Sure you're not pregnant? You know, things tasting odd...

thenightsky · 21/12/2012 22:03

Paella... I cooked like a ton of the stuff, only to find I HATE the taste of smoked paprika after I'd added it Sad

aJumpedUpChristmasElf · 21/12/2012 22:04

StrawberrytallCAKE, I made that too and it was horrible

StrawberrytallCAKE · 22/12/2012 06:34

Disappointing eh? Especially as it took 3 hours to cook and looked so good when she did it!

mummyonvalium · 22/12/2012 10:00

Oh dear, don't say the pregnant thing. It is my biggest fear. The sauce was definitely burnt. I asked my cleaning lady if she could try it and she said "no, it does not smell good". I coated the beef in plain flour and after that it went down hill.

Strawerry - I have seen the way she cooks and I have always been suspect (I remember once she made bread and stuffed it with ham - very weird). Since then I have found it quite easy to avoid her recipes.

A polenta cake that tasted like gritty lemon sand, and the taramasalata that was like fishy ins.

JamNan · 22/12/2012 11:42

A bunch of steamed asparagus only I didn't take the elastic band off. The taste was rubbery.

A cream of Jerusalem artichoke soup is a close second. Smelled lovely, looked inviting tasted horrid.

Idohaveoneofthese · 22/12/2012 11:44

Tofu stir fry - I think I should have realised before I started!,

bagpuss · 22/12/2012 11:48

Nigel slater's pork rib ragu. Never make this, it made my house stink and was just so terrible looking it went straight in the bin.

Rindercella · 22/12/2012 11:50

Sorry, pregnant crossed my mind too.

TheFollyfootandtheivy · 22/12/2012 11:52

A vegetable soup that was so bad I dug a hole in the garden and tipped it in (too thick for plughole, too thin for bin) Xmas Grin

CollieAndTheEyeV · 22/12/2012 14:54

Anything too thick for plughole, too thin for bin goes down the toilet in our house. Usually accompanied by pukey noises. Grin

Varya · 22/12/2012 15:03

Tuna and sweetcorn soup. Utterly inedible!

Mrsrudolphduvall · 22/12/2012 15:05

I made a pork and swet potato casserole from a Waitrose recipe card.
It was vile..looked like vomit.

It has become known as "the foul slop mum cooked"

NettoHoHoHoSuperstar · 22/12/2012 16:38

The thought of tuna in a soup sounds vile.

mummyonvalium · 22/12/2012 20:26

Oh dear - I fear the pregnancy people may have been right. Friend fed me cake which I didn't like because it didn't taste of real lemon. I have just thrown up with no warning and no other symptoms except that horrible heart-burny feel you get in a pregnancy vomit. I feel a test coming on tomorrow.

Pg was my first thought.

What is it with hormones that turn a cupb of tea into something foul tasting?

I hope you get the answer you want OP.

FestiveOrganisoid · 22/12/2012 20:35

French onion soup. It was vile.

ViperInTheManger · 22/12/2012 20:38

I once made a chicken breast stuffed with blue cheese mousse then wrapped in foil and poached. It was vile, looked like a white sausage and when sliced as recommended in the book had a pale blue centre. It was truly bleeurgh! That was an interesting dinner party!

mummyonvalium · 22/12/2012 22:42

Interesting viper. Sounds nice in theory.

Steak and kidney pie for my husband. The steak was fine, but I'd never cooked with kidneys before and um... they smelled like mince and piss.

Never again.

TodaysAGoodDay · 23/12/2012 00:27

I made the mistake of making Delia Smith's seafood risotto, the one she did for Waitrose. OMG the house stank of fish, and I usually love fish. It tasted even worse than it smelt, please nobody ever cook it!

This is why M and S do ready meals...and why I buy em
