I'd like dd to have less dairy stuff in her diet, but she LOVES milk (we get semi organic). She also drinks water, & lemonade on special occasions. Even if i could reduce the amount of milk she has, what can i replace it with? Fruit juice is full of sugar, plus she hates it anyway, water is too boring & cold to drink all the time. What other drink is nice to drink warm? dont like the thought of dh & I having our nice hot tea in the morning while she has cold water!!

Mine (6 and 1) drink water or watered down fruit juice.
The 6 year old occasionally asks for tea.

charliecat · 26/03/2006 22:46

my dds have water they dont moan that its boring or cold!

unpaidcleaner · 26/03/2006 22:48

Honestly? Cold water? with breakfast on freezing cold winter morning??!!Do you live somewhere a lot warmer than the north of england??!!!!!!!

MY ds has Alpro soya and loves it for cereal. Many people think Alpro is fine in coffee/ or warm on its own.

I like it on cereal too - only the sweetened version though :o

My DS (3) has just started trying some very weak, milky redbush tea - no caffeine and much lower tannin than the normal stuff. He asked for it because we have hot drinks in the morning. (I have redbush so it was very easy)

charliecat · 26/03/2006 22:49

yes, with cold milk out the fridge with cereal, we have central heating and slippers!

Caligula · 26/03/2006 22:51

Herbal teas? Chamomile particularly is good because it's so mild and nice.

SorenLorensen · 26/03/2006 22:51

Ds2 won't drink milk. He loves dry cereal in the mornings (weird child) and drinks fruit juice and water. He will eat yoghurt, cheese etc. and he has porridge made with milk.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/03/2006 22:52

water.

unpaidcleaner · 26/03/2006 22:53

am making a note of these, thanks. never heard of redbush tea before. Charliecat - we have central heating, slippers, gas fire on , & eat fully dressed, not in pyjamas - and it's still too blooming cold to drink cold water!! Maybe we are just too soft!!!!

i love camomile & green tea. dd thinks they are gross & says the smell makes her feel sick. So i think the herbal route is a non-starter!

Did i read somewhere that soya we get in UK is imported GM soya?? Or am i imagining things (maybe i've overdone the herbal stuff!)

Why are you worried imho milk and water is fine for our lo's to drink my dd who's nearly three has only drank both of these ever. Why do you want to reduce her dairy intake?

Nightynight · 26/03/2006 23:43

Try goats milk, it is more digestible than cows milk?
Also, herbal teas, I sometimes con my children into drinking those.
Hot juice (half juice, half hot water, a teaspoon of sugar - I can hear the sharp breaths being drawn at that, lol)
Also, hot chocolate made with half milk, half water.
Also, an ersatz coffee drink which is made from roasted barley. It is called caffe orzo, and is given to children in Italy.

Caligula · 26/03/2006 23:45

Check the label. If it's USA, it's been mixed with GM.

soapbox · 26/03/2006 23:55

Water - children usually drink cold drinks don't they? Don't think they miss hot ones???

My DCs are severely allergic to dairy so no option really. Would never cross my mind to give them a warm drink in the morning - never had it so won't miss itWink

SorenLorensen · 26/03/2006 23:56

I don't drink hot drinks and I'm a grown-up. Don't feel deprived Smile

spidermama · 26/03/2006 23:57

My kids drink water and sometimes juice. In cereal my dd has cow milk because she likes it, but the others have soya milk, rice milk and sometimes goat. If I'm feeling really smug I'll make hemp milk. (Irritating smirk emoticon)

spidermama · 26/03/2006 23:58

I stopped taking milk in coffee and tea after Moondog's pus assertions and after about two days I much preferred it black. I couldn't go back.

threebob · 27/03/2006 01:20

Water
Soy milk
oat milk
rice milk
Chocolate soy milk
Chocolate rice milk

Warm water?

sazhig · 27/03/2006 01:52

Sorry completely ot here - but what is semi-organic milk? Surely its either organic or not!Grin

moondog · 27/03/2006 10:20

lol at 'pus assertions' SM!
I am still racking my brains to remember who told me this on MN. WWB I am convinced...

moondog · 27/03/2006 10:21

Hemp milk??
How d'you make that then?
Steep an old bag (the carrrying kind) in water??

Enid · 27/03/2006 10:23

I said that non-organic milk is full of mucus

why do you want to reduce your childrens dairy intake??

must parp myself

Caligula · 27/03/2006 10:25
