In the last 12 months i've become addicted to olives for some unknown reason.

I went to a birthday party at our local pub and they had olives on the buffet. I was determined to try them, even though I absolutely hate them. I always wanted to like them but couldn't stand that metalic bitter taste.

I tried them and it wasn't as bad as I remembered and a few weeks later I passed one of those greek stalls selling fresh stuffed olives and I bought some garlic stuffed olives and from then on i've been totally addicted to them but previous to this I couldn't stand olives. Weird.

Goats cheese. I have a vivid memory of my Nan forcing it down my unwilling throat as a child, however, I love it now. Ate it by accident about 6months ago (thought it was feta) and that salty goatiness is so good!!

I hated curry until I was pg with dd2. Couldn't stand it.
Now all I want is spicy food or curry sauce on tho side!

jazzchickens · 15/07/2012 11:56

Cheese here also.

Growing up, I would only eat cheese spread. Now I can't live without cheese.

Olives - hated them til my mid twenties but then tried some in Nice with pesto on and have loved them ever since!

Tonic water - think this is just having tried it too young as a child, but then tried again when about 17 in an attempt to look sophisticated and now love it (preferably with gin though!)

Beetroot - hated as a child, really like it now

Raw tomatoes - still don't like pale tasteless supermarket ones particularly but having had nice ripe ones on holidays in Italy/Spain/France as an adult have become keen on them and no longer have to pick them out of sandwiches and salads even if pale and tasteless!

Nowadays I think there might not be ANY food I don't like (well, within the bounds of things you come across on an every day basis!)

yellowraincoat · 15/07/2012 12:00

coriander. Used to think it tasted of soap, now love it.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 15/07/2012 12:02

Coleslaw. Absolutely couldnt stand it until last year. I love it now. Though it has to be really creamy homemade stuff. Cant stand shop bought stuff, too vinegary.

I love olives aswell :)

Peanut butter

Whatevertheweather · 15/07/2012 12:13

Parsnips, sweet potatoes and pesto. Started eating them in last few years and now love them. Still can't stand lamb though, don't think i ever will.

TodaysAGoodDay · 15/07/2012 12:22

I hated cheddar cheese when I was younger. All of a sudden in my 20's something changed, and now I could eat it by the block.

And spinach. It's delicious now. I do it with butter, cream, garlic and a squeeze of lemon juice and I could eat a ton.

ja9 · 15/07/2012 12:24

Also olives. Had my first one when 17 and on an exchange trip to romania. Despite being able to swallow all manner of foods without tasting them i promptly spat out the olive. Now, 17 yrs later, they are my favourite nibble!

blub · 15/07/2012 12:25

Mushrooms. Used to religiously pick them out of every dish - can't get enough of them now!

ScrambledSmegs · 15/07/2012 12:26

Raw tomatoes here too. When I was a child all tomatoes tasted very acidic to me. Now I love them. Home-grown in particular are amazing.

ooer · 15/07/2012 12:28

Lime pickle. Mmm-mmmm!

ladyinthelibrary · 15/07/2012 12:28

Mushrooms, avocado, peppers and celery. Still trying to like olives!

QueenFuri · 15/07/2012 12:37

sayanythingrogerjustrogerme · 15/07/2012 12:38

HappyGirlNow · 15/07/2012 13:09

Olives also - spent years trying to acquire a taste to no avail then a few months ao it just clicked - now an olive addict...

Oxygene · 15/07/2012 16:09

I've tried to force myself to like fish but to no avail. This talk about trying something 10 times then you'll love it simply isn't true. I forced myself to eat fish for a month and I still hate it. The only stuff I can eat is the chip shop stuff which doesn't taste fishy.

I used to hate mushrooms now I don't mind but still not a massive fan. Fresh tomatoes too. Would only ever eat tinned.

Olives and avocados. I've always like olive oil so it wasn't the flavour, I think it must have been poor quality, salty ones years ago. The one in basil are delicious. I'm not quite sure where the love of avocado cane from!

ShirleyKnot · 15/07/2012 16:19

Ginger.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 15/07/2012 16:21

Crab, used to dislike it but now love it Smile
