Foods you once hated but now can't get enough of

In the last 12 months i've become addicted to olives for some unknown reason.

I went to a birthday party at our local pub and they had olives on the buffet. I was determined to try them, even though I absolutely hate them. I always wanted to like them but couldn't stand that metalic bitter taste.

I tried them and it wasn't as bad as I remembered and a few weeks later I passed one of those greek stalls selling fresh stuffed olives and I bought some garlic stuffed olives and from then on i've been totally addicted to them but previous to this I couldn't stand olives. Weird.

My DW says that the texture of button mushrooms feel like the tip of a penis. Not sure why that's a bad thing. Confused

I saw the thread title and instantly thought olives :o.
Also anchovies. For some reason I can't have enough fishy salt these days.

Gravy and Coleslaw. I'm really picky about both though!

Still can't stand Fish, Olives, and Mushrooms.

Olives and Stilton cheese.

Oysters - first time I tried them, I thought I was going to be sick. Had no desire to have them again. Tried them again in uni in France and loved them. Still love them.

Calves liver- found it disgusting until I had it in Italy and discovered that the reason why all the previous examples were so bleurgh was that they were all overlooked. There, the sliced livers were just quickly seared in a very hot pan, and served with an acidic side (balsamic figs) which completely changes the dish.

OP - I was just going to say that I love mushrooms now but your last post has just put me off them again Grin

Yes I seem to only have taken a liking to the large green olives and not the black or kalamata olives yet people rekon the kalamata ones are the best. I think they're called queen olives. I prefer the ones stuffed with garlic in brine and not the ones in oil. Not so keen on the greassy feel of the ones in olive oil but love the salty flavour of the ones in brine. Tescos do a greek one in a jar, I forget the make. They're lush for a late night nibble with a tall g&t. My obsession has got so bad that I can down a full jar in one night and last time I went to Tescos I bought the entire tray (a dozen) and cleared them out as I know what Tescos are like for running out or destocking brands the minute you get a taste for them. I know what-simona happen. I'm gonna sicken myself with them and end up having them again. Ha ha!

I'll try that last sentence again only this time without the dyslexia fingers. I'll have to remember there's no edit facility on here.

'I know what's gonna happen. I'll sicken myself with them and end up hating them again.'

LittleNutTree · 15/07/2012 17:33

I used to hate olives and Parmesan cheese until I was pregnant with DD1 and now absolutely love them both. Pregnancy is weird! Grin

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 15/07/2012 17:36

Beetroot, I couldn't stand the stuff now I eat it by the truckload.

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 15/07/2012 18:06

Prawns. Avoided them for years because I was sure they'd be 'slimy'. Bloody love 'em! Grin
