I'm new to Ocado and have just placed my first two orders. Their own brand stuff (so far) tastes much better than the dire Asda food we've had recently. What do you buy from Waitrose which is better than standard supermarket stuff? I'm pregnant and want to indulge now the morning sickness is wearing off Grin

Tell me your favourites go on..

chewbacca the corn fed one is the one I always get. It is very tender and flavoursome and goes a long way too.

TheSkiingGardener · 26/06/2012 21:16

Oh yes, their fresh fish fingers. The frozen ones are good to but they fresh ones are fantastic.

goodlifemummy · 27/06/2012 12:17

I LOVE their essential faggots Grin

throckenholt · 27/06/2012 13:59

I treated us to a seriously buttery cake yesterday (apple and blackcurrant crumble cake) - it was 25% off - and it was seriously delicious :)

fizzyapples · 27/06/2012 14:05

Lime & coconut ice cream, biological washing capsule thingies (!) their concentrated fabric softener, triple choc crisp cereal, frozen fish pie mix.

fizzyapples · 27/06/2012 14:07

sweet potato chips, frozen, butternut squash frozen & green veg mix, frozen!

Dropdeadfred · 27/06/2012 14:08

I live their half chicken with chilli butter and sweet chilli sauce. And it's in the 3 for £10 promotion!!

Dropdeadfred · 27/06/2012 14:08

Love not live

Kaloobear · 27/06/2012 14:12

Waitrose essentials range is all good in my opinion. I love their tea, pasta, veg, dishwasher tablets...other stuff too that I can't think of. I then undo all my money saving efforts though because I buy duchy originals bacon, eggs and sausages Blush

Viviennemary · 27/06/2012 14:20

Do they do any nice ready meals. Not that I'm lazy or anything

HexGirl · 27/06/2012 14:21

Their own brand Cheerios are v good as are the majority of their Essential range cereals.

Fish pie mix brilliant.

The Cook's Ingredients range also good.

Frozen ready made mash is lovely. Generally good standard of frozen vegetables, ditto fresh fruit and veg.

The whole roast chicken is yummy and the pulled pork is to die for.

Dropdeadfred · 27/06/2012 14:31

Their ready meals such as lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, chill con carne etc are lovely and are 3 for £6

HexGirl · 27/06/2012 14:51

Darn this thread, I've now ended up spending an extra £15 on this week's online shop Angry Grin

Dropdeadfred · 27/06/2012 15:24

Hexgirl - but you'll love it all!!! And waste none !!

Viviennemary · 27/06/2012 15:42

I'm supposed to be on a diet. Grin

fizzyapples · 27/06/2012 15:47

The £10 Indian meal deal is very good!

DilysPrice · 27/06/2012 16:08

Frozen risotto is a pretty good standby, and you can just add stuff to it. Wok oil is good, you slosh some in to start off a sturdy and it starts smelling and tasting right immediately. English Veal meatballs are very good to put in a curry/pasta sauce.

DilysPrice · 27/06/2012 16:10

Sturdy=stir fry Blush

fizzyapples · 27/06/2012 16:14

tomato & basil pasta sauce is great and cheap too. fresh tomato & marscapone sauce, feta stuffed olives from the deli counter, microsteam butternut/broc/carrot is lovely, essentials creme brulee, oh and have you see the new puddings? cola jelly with cola bottles etc! blueberry jumble, crepes with nutella filling. slather!

ToryLovell · 28/06/2012 14:42

IME their essentials range is equivalent to a lot of the Finest / Taste the Difference stuff from other supermarkets.

They also do slightly different or more interesting stuff that you can't get elsewhere - eg Tesco / Asda / Sainsburys all have a version of mandarin / blackcurrant cheesecake, whereas Waitrose also have toffee apple / raspberry brulee cheesecake as well.

nannyl · 28/06/2012 16:47

I agree Tory

it wasnt that long ago when they made the essentials range things

many waitrose own brand stuff (which i always feel is superior to other super markets own brand because its waitrose, was just re-labelled) ingredients / nutrition stayed the same and in some cases the prices dropped.

I remember comparing lots of things during the change over!

SkivingAgain · 28/06/2012 16:52

We love the deboned chicken with sun dried tomatoes and the same with honey glaze. Also buy all our fresh stuff there - quality mince (5% fat) and frozen bag of free range chicken breast or thighs and frozen Aberdeen Angus stewing steak. However, we prefer the fish counter in Asda.

MrsJamin · 28/06/2012 17:19

Frozen Grilled Vegetable Mix - excellent standby you can put in any mediterrean dishes, bolognese, on pizza, in couscous etc.
Their big bags of crisps e.g. Cheese Puffs - only 64p now and goes a lot further than little packets.
Ocado 4 avocados for £2 - really good price and kept them in fridge, ripened them one by one.
But yes, the essential products are fantastic, a much higher quality than another supermarket brand.

ihatethecold · 28/06/2012 17:23

They do lovely cous cous with vegetables for £2.99. It's not the cheapest price but the veggies are a decent size and not rehydrated.
