Mary Berry's chocolate rum cake, but using cherry brandy instead.

I shall post pics and a review. Please do the same for your bakings!

I love the thought of emergency artisan bread MoreBeta. I'm trying to imagine what sort of emergency you could have where only specialist bread will do Grin

alemci · 06/05/2012 17:07

I made brownies and a lemon drizzle cake. I haven't done any baking for ages but it is probably because the weather is so rubbish and we have an extra day off.

Olympia2012 · 06/05/2012 17:10

Banana flapjacks which I drizzled with dark chocdelish. and a Mary berry Madeira cake which I was not too impressed with. The dc have devoured though

I don't know how to get it like my mums!

TheFlyingFishFinger · 06/05/2012 21:58

I've not tried Madeira cake before, what makes it diff from a normal sponge? Is it just the lemon?

When I buy it, it's always very fine crumb and I love that but can never seem to get my cakes like it!

TheFlyingFishFinger · 06/05/2012 21:59

Errr, I ment I've never tried to make it before, not I've never tried it before. O.o

LordFlasheart · 09/05/2012 10:53

Today I am baking: Golden Syrup & Banana cake.

MmmmMMmmmm!

LordFlasheart · 10/05/2012 12:41

I LIED- I didnt make the banana cake yesterday- made Mary Berrys coffee & walnut with coffee buttercream icing today though.

That's 4 cakes this week- and DP is still getting through the faux-manor house cake that someone else posted the recipe for! He liked it but not keen on the almond essence- I found it a bit crumbly but did have a good flavour!

What are you all baking?

TheCunningStunt · 10/05/2012 12:48

I'm not baking anything exciting today. Buttermilk bread...a bit like brioche. I am butter yesterday and had buttermilk as a by product from it. Sticky toffee pudding at the weekend though I think

Nolda · 10/05/2012 15:51

I have made Mary Berry's chocolate brownies for DD's school fair. I love her recipe as it's not too gooey and mudlike (I know that makes me a bit strange but oh well).

wem · 10/05/2012 16:17

Today I have made a top secret recipe that may or may not have golden syrup in and which I may or may not have entered into competition that I'm certainly not going to tell you lot about Grin

LordFlasheart · 13/05/2012 18:16

Go on Wem, what was it?! Grin

Today I baked squishy cinnamon rolls with drizzly icing and they were fantastic!

OP posts:
wem · 13/05/2012 18:50

Nope, not telling :). If I win I'll scream I'll come on and tell all. If I don't win you'll have to wait as I'll be sulking for a good long while.

wem · 13/05/2012 18:52

I didn't bake anything today. If I had a kitchenaid I would have done

Cinnamon rolls sound lovely

LordFlasheart · 14/05/2012 09:47

I dont know what a kitchenaid is. What is it? Will it make cakes for me?

I have a multipro that I dont really know how to use, so probably wasted on me...

All the same I may enter the comp just to snatch victory from your floury, grasping hands... Grin

OP posts:
wem · 14/05/2012 11:03

Oh they're rubbish, I wouldn't bother, honestly. I only entered because I'm weird and want it for my collection of rubbish kitchen appliances.

I mean, have a look here. See what I mean? Ugly things, probably no good for making cakes or anything.

I'm making a bread pudding, never done it before, more nervous than I should be! Bread is soaking, am debating adding a splash of JD or rum to it what do you think?

LordFlasheart · 14/05/2012 11:20

Oooh. OOOOO. Thats nice!

Bread pudding, Daisy? Thats one thing I have never made- though my dad loves it! JD maybe (rum-hater).

OP posts:
DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 14/05/2012 11:41

JD duly added :)

medjool · 14/05/2012 12:49

Oooh can I join this thread? I have a lemon cheesecake in the oven - usually do vanilla but fancied a change. Should I top it with lemon curd for a sweeter contrast (my recipe is heavy on the sour cream and I like the not-quite-sweetness to the cheesy bit of the cake). Big baking plans this week as new gluten free baking book is on the way from Amazon, plus major freezer filling going on for a Jewish holiday which starts next Friday night - over 3 days I will be making meals for between 8 and 16 people each time so makes sense to get dessert out of the way!

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 14/05/2012 13:08

It's in the oven, wish me luck! it looked awfully sloppy Confused who knew squeezing liquid out of bread was so tricky??

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 14/05/2012 13:10

medjool may I please have your basic cheesecake recipe, I am a big fan of the US style ones and haven't ever found one I really like that's still adequately cheesy :) Lemon curd on top sounds lovely - making your own or buying? if buying the Duchy Originals one is to die for

LordFlasheart · 14/05/2012 15:44

Hello medjool, how did it come out? Did you use lemon curd? And Daisy- did it firm up? Did the JD work?

I am waiting for golden syrup & banana loaf cake to be ready, it smells lovely, but its taking ages to cook!

I want to try the nutella cake linked to upthread but I'm worried it will be dry, Mrs Kitty is it a dry cake?

I have just made spinach and filo parcels and scoffed two already, absolutely delicious. Currently waiting for my dough to rise so I can make home made rolls for tonight's dinner, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's dabs in a bap, except Waitrose were all out of dabs so it's plaice in a bap instead!

LordFlasheart · 14/05/2012 16:51

My cake was brilliant, really fluffy and light and the syrup definatly works.

Recipe here but no need to cream whisk etc- just dump it all in a bowl, it rose beautifully!

OP posts:
LordFlasheart · 14/05/2012 16:51

And I want the spinach parcels, please Grin
