Mitchie, I kind of do what Taffeta does. I out days on the plan because that way I can make sure to use things up before they go off or whatever, it also helps me remember to take things out of the freezer. Sometimes things get swapped around if, for example, something unexpected happens, or if I feel really, really dire.

We are pretty much an "eat what is set in front of you" kind of household, though, so I don't really go in for the whole not feeling like something thing. Folk in here get what I cook or they don't eat.

ok, am doing a five meal plan for the week and will choose what I fancy on the day. I think I am the pickiest one in the house. Anyone else is usually just grateful to be fed at all or can have a pot noodle and chips!

because the veg and salad box is pot luck most weeks and because I haven't been shopping it might be a week of using up things that have been in the cupboard or freezer since 1997.

TheArmadillo · 05/02/2012 11:40

sunday lunch - slow cooked lamb + trimmings
sunday tea - ham/egg/chips

rest of week - haven't selected days yet as we are having people round on a couple of days but not sure which ones yet.
fish with chilli/lemon/parsley/garlic dressing, rocket and saute pots

ravoli stuffed with a chorizo based filling (not fully decided yet) with tomato sauce

sausages with jacket pots, peppers and onions, salad

potato boulangerie with beef and veg

kids - pasta and sauce, adults - chorizo pizza with rocket salad.

MitchieInge · 05/02/2012 11:52

right, have taken stock and I can see why people do particular meals on certain days - things going out of date, amount of prep time etc so here is my plan:

today - chicken breasts (stuffed with butter) wrapped in prosciutto and baked in butter and olive oil, probably make some sort of herby roast potatoes because daughter is in love with them. Hate potatoes. Why can't they be more like pasta and less preparationy? And whatever green veg most urgently needs to be eaten from last week's box, beans I think.

tomorrow - found a slightly fatigued fennel bulb, will braise and see how it gets on with some couscous in style of kisir and all the salad leaves. Is hardly salad weather. Could make a pudding to have too?

tues - pasta with beef and lamb sauce

weds - chicken with, if I have my way, dolcelatte and double cream/white wine sauce and fettuccine or tanglyatelli. If protests erupt I will not brutally suppress them, I will make some lemon butter sauce instead. Poor me.

thurs - veg box day! So it depends doesn't it? Risotto hopefully. Or roast everything then make it into soup. Soup is not really a very good meal though unless you have about six bowls?

fri - I don't know, surely a takeaway?

Taffeta · 05/02/2012 12:06

Mitchie - soup is fine with lots of bread and cheese and pudding, natch!

JackiePaper · 05/02/2012 12:08

Cheeseandbiscuits - could you share the recipe for your lentil pie pretty please? Thanks x

MitchieInge · 05/02/2012 12:19

there is no protein in Monday's meal is there, unless I add feta or pine nuts or both?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/02/2012 19:16

Stegasaurus What is your deep South stew please?

Today - veggie chilli, guacamole, soured cream etc
Monday - veggie Shepherd's pie (Quorn mince filling to be done in the slowcooker tomorrow)
Tuesday - Spanish omelette and salad (I think)
Weds - out for dinner
Beyond that - no idea.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/02/2012 19:17

Oh yes - I have lots of green stuff for a risotto too. Will prob have that on Tuesday and Spanish omelette on Thursday.

Jcee · 05/02/2012 20:59

Today - coq au vin, potatoes & broccoli
Monday - Thai red curry with prawns and rice

Tuesday - fish chips and mushy peas
Wednesday - pork chops, grilled veg & potato waffles
Thursday - chicken & veg fajitas
Friday - jacket potatoes and chilli

remus your baked risotto recipe, which you pointed me to from another thread (which I can't find now) was fab, we all loved it! Thanks a lot!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/02/2012 21:02

Glad you liked it! What vege did you use?

It's also nice done really simply, with perhaps just some onions, spinach, herbs and lemon juice and used as a stuffing for roasted red peppers.

Denj33 · 05/02/2012 21:09

Today- roast chicken, rice and peas, roast potatoes and salad
Monday-meatballs, Pasta and salad
Tuesday- shepherds pie, broccoli carrots and cauliflower

Wednesday - pulled pork with coleslaw
Thursday - pasta with red, yellow and orange peppers, garlic and soy sauce
Friday -Jacket poatoes with beans and cheese for the DC's and cheese and coleslaw for me
Saturday - we pretty much graze most of the day after having a hearty grilled breakfast of sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, beans and toast. So we have nibbly bits for dinner so it will be southern fried chicken wings or somesuch, something where I have a day off from cooking
Sunday - Roast chicken dinner

chocolateshoes · 06/02/2012 17:50

Sunday - veggie lasagne
Monday - roasted Thai salmon with stir fry cabbage, sweet potato & peanut gratin, green beans

thursday - pizza (DS is making pizza at school so I'll make another large one)
friday - pub (I hope - half term treat!)

lunches tend to be last night's left overs at homemade soup at the weekend. We don't really do pudding cos I'll eat it all!

Mon (yesterday) - beetroot and feta bake (inspired by a picture in the Times magazine, although I didn't actually read the recipe) (Kids had waffles and fish fingers / omelette)
Tues - puff pastry things. Ours will have cherry toms and sardines, kids will have pasta sauce, prawns and sweet corn.
Weds - Coq au vin, mashed spuds and parsnips, cabbage
Thurs - colcannon made from left over mash and cabbage, baked with eggs in and cheese on top.
Fri - pub after school, fish and chips on the way home. Half term tradition.

Then we are going to stay with friends who have a curious diet that seems to involve neither protein nor carbs (or alcohol, god help me).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2012 18:11

Betty - any chance of a recipe for vege byriani?
