My mum has bought me a bottle of Cristal (sp?) for my birthday.

Am v excited, never tried it before!

Enideepmidwinter · 19/12/2005 12:13

we had billecart for our wedding

very good and nice mellow bubbles

my utter fave is laurent perrier rose tbh

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:12

Just bought a bottle of Billecart on strength of this thread as well as...ahem...quite a lot of other stuff. (Oh the joys of having an empty womb at this time of year!!!)

It better be good.....

alicatsg · 19/12/2005 14:45

we have v posh french friends staying with us and whenever they come they bring lovely wine. Except this time. This time they brought heavy dutch beers and a bottle of neon pink own-brand somerfield sparkling wine. It tastes just like the mouthwash at the dentists.

gutted....!

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:46

Bummer!

lunaturkey · 19/12/2005 15:19

agree with moondog tesco- might not be the most 'immpressive' but it tastes good for the price !

nailpolish · 19/12/2005 15:23

i actually prefer Cava

and its cheaper!

always get it from marks and spencer, but i see sainsburys cava is half price

nailpolish · 19/12/2005 15:24

lol at moondogs empty womb theory!

melrose · 19/12/2005 15:30

Mumm Cuvee Napa is fab, made by Mumm but in California so not really champagne, but half the price (£10-12) and tastes v v good, Served at my wedding and everyone commented on how nice the champers was

bossykate · 19/12/2005 15:31

cava - best supermarket own brand is waitrose. sainsbos v. insipid. if you ever come across clos monistrol - snap it up - delicious with a champagne like depth/flavour.

GingerBearingGifts · 19/12/2005 15:32

Saint Gall Orpale Grand Cru Champagne Blancs de Blancs £24.99 a bottle - Marks and Spencer

Had this at Christmas last year and it is yummy!

bossykate · 19/12/2005 15:33

other non champagne fizz - lindauer reserve always highly rated.

Heathcliffscathy · 20/12/2005 16:06

bossykate · 21/12/2005 12:58

no, that's where we got it from before - humble sainsbos.

bossykate · 21/12/2005 13:00

it is the most champagne like cava i've ever tasted - and i have sampled a wide selection...

Blandmum · 21/12/2005 13:17

Sophiable, yes you did! It is £3.95 a bottle with an extra 5% off if you buy 6.

Guess who has a box of six in the fridge???

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 21/12/2005 13:29

Have to agree that Tescos Premier Cru is very good I like Veuve Clicqout and Cristal is fab too when someone else is buying.
My fave is Nicholas Feuillatte(sp) we(6 of us) did a blind tasting to decide which champagne to buy for a family celebration and it came up top with everyone and good price too.

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 21/12/2005 13:33

Might give the Cava a try.

bossykate · 21/12/2005 17:18

hope the clos monistrol isn't a big let down for you now!
