no to Krug (tastes like halitosis)
no to Bolly
big fat no to Moet
imho

moondog · 16/12/2005 23:33

Much as I despise Tescos, their Premier Cru knocked spots off most other makesmentioned her in a recent big tasting (papers were full of it the next day).

I was glad as secretly(!) always thought it wascracking.Sometimes sneak in (in beard and silly hat) to buy a bottle or six.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 16/12/2005 23:40

only ever Veuve Cliquot

puffoeufnog · 17/12/2005 10:53

tbh, I don't rate French champagne much anymore. Some of the Californian and Australian sparklies are miles more delicious.

MerryChrishMash · 17/12/2005 10:58

Have tried most of them but Veuve is my fav - it is less acidic than most others - hate Moet

Hulababy · 17/12/2005 11:53

Agree - Veuve Cliquot is my favourite too. Have a couple of bottles in for Christmas Day

Dh brought home a vintage bottle of Bollinger from work yesterday. A work contact brought it in for him. Be nice to try it and see.

Had a vintage bottle of Dom Perignon is summer but have to say that despite it's massive price atg, wasn't overly impressed. It was nice and light, but still prefered the Veuve Cliquot.

Been to Reims a few times champagne tasting now - love the stuff. Mmmmm!

DingDongMerrilyOnHIGHLANDER · 17/12/2005 16:35

Bolly is nice but very sweet.

Veuve is ace, ace, ace but it must be ice-cold.

For every day drinking, tescos prmier cru is nice, as is Sainsbury's Cava (they were doing 2 for 1)

expatinscotland · 17/12/2005 16:36

Billecart Salmon all the way.

puffoeufnog · 17/12/2005 18:41

yes, bolly is a bit sweeter than others, that's why it's kinder to my tum I think - had a stomach ulcer a few years ago and have to be cautious about what I drink, if anything.

I's like to try Billecart Salmon - read quite a few rave reviews about it, but haven't been able to get hold of any.

Blandmum · 17/12/2005 18:43

have to out myself as an oik here, but I'd rather have lots of nice Cava to drink over the holidays than splash out on a 'posh' name for Xmas day.

zippimistletoes · 17/12/2005 18:45

puff did you hear about the nobel prizewinners who discovered that stomach ulcers were caused by bacteria and treatable with anti biotics

Blandmum · 17/12/2005 18:46

helicobacter pylori

Heathcliffscathy · 17/12/2005 18:48

ohmigod expat.....billecart salmon is my absolute favourite too, and nobody knows it...you have taste woman!

harpsiheraldangelssing · 17/12/2005 18:50

puffoeufnog · 17/12/2005 18:54

Heathcliffscathy · 17/12/2005 19:26
