Help! 7 litres of surplus breastmilk - recipes anyone?!

fastasleep · 30/11/2005 15:13

This week I'm not allowed to donate my surplus milk due to the fact that I have a streaming cold... this is going to leave me with at least 7 litres of the stuff by Wednesday! Anyone know how to make rice pudding, semolina...anything that my 21 month old will eat? Would even rather eat it myself than have it chucked out ..

Thanks!

have you got a freezer?

fastasleep · 30/11/2005 15:14

Well yes...

But 7 litres of milk would kind of fill it, and then there's the stuff I need to freeze straight away for the milkbank which fills it weekly by itself...

unless you're suggesting making ice cream?

my girls at that age loved cauliflower cheese, macaroni cheese and cheesy lasagne

laundrylover · 30/11/2005 15:52

You can make rice pudding by just boiling up rice, milk and sugar. Not sure of quantities but we made it loads in Africa on a campfire with left over rice and it was yummy! My mum puts it in the oven but shes a 'proper' mummy!

moondog · 30/11/2005 16:14

Yoghurt????
Cheese??

You are amazing fastasleep,simply amazing!

hatstand · 30/11/2005 16:18

I think you're amazing too! Why don't you call Gordon Ramsey. He made rice pudding with horse's milk on telly the other day. He has a bit of a thing going about unusual foods at the moment (it was squirrel the week before) One of the people trying the horse milk said it was very like breast milk.

walkinginawinterBundleland · 30/11/2005 16:19

dh had mare's milk (with alcohol!) in kazakhstan. he said it was revolting..but i think that was what they'd done with it.

hello hatstand!

hatstand · 30/11/2005 16:21

you panicked me for a minute Bundle, glanced at your name, didn;t recognise it and started wondering how drunk I got...

marthamoo · 30/11/2005 16:23

I am seriously impressed by 7 litres! It used to take me an hout to express about two ounces.

marthamoo · 30/11/2005 16:23

An hout of course is an ancient Norse unit of time which corresponds to one hour

TinyGang · 30/11/2005 16:27

Seven litres surplus! I'm with marthamoo in being impressed

fastasleep · 30/11/2005 17:19

Ack don't be impressed, it's nothing I did it just all spurts out from nowhere!

So then does anyone have Gordon Ramsay or Hugh Fearnly Whittingstall's (sp!) number then?

I have sent the hubby out to buy pudding rice... so good old rice pudding it is..

the milkbank asked for pictures of me making it to put on their noticeboard at work! (They laugh at me behind my back I just know it....)

And just so you know marthamoo with my first baby I barely made enough to keep him going - we had to supplement with formula and it was really hard to get out, so I feel your pain!... God knows what happened this time!

im sorry, but the title of this thread mademe gag

Willow2 · 30/11/2005 17:29

Could you add cheese and make a fondue?

misdee · 30/11/2005 17:31

are you going to eat the rice pud yourself?

why does the thought of cooking with breastmilk make you gag stitch? tbh since i started breastfeeding dd3, the thought of normal milk makes me feel sick some days, i mean it comes from cows! ewwwwww they smell

fastasleep · 30/11/2005 17:32

The rice pudding is for my 21 month old I hasten to add!!

I could make fondue... oh there are so many options! Lol

I just emailed Giles from the F Word!! (bet I never get a reply!)

7 Litres!!!! Wow! Respect!

Would imagine you could make almost anything that you would usually put cows' milk in.

wads · 30/11/2005 19:48

have to add my in aweness at 7 litres! How about fresh fruit milkshakes?

mummytosteven · 30/11/2005 20:34

erm think we have some spare freezer space if that's of any use to you?

mummytosteven · 30/11/2005 20:39

I just had to google this!!!

here

marthamoo · 30/11/2005 20:41

Excellent link, mts. There you go, fastasleep - you can make soap. That's Christmas presents sorted.

laundrylover · 30/11/2005 21:21

zebratwizzler · 30/11/2005 21:37

could she flog the breastmilk on ebay? Does ebay let you? Don't bodybuilders like the stuff & pay good money for it?
Donate the proceeds to charity, if you feel squeamish.. but I don't see why not do it.
