Califrau, you're welcome to cali - I'm leaving.

That's it really, have been here since 2005 as cali but I'm now fed up with every so often reading comments about my name being similar to yours and all the confusion it causes.

I have enough major issues to deal with in real life at the moment without reading about me treading on your toes because you chose a nickname that was similar to mine.

Have lurked more than posted but have mostly enjoyed my time here, might be back at some point but it won't be as cali.

from the title i thought you meant you were leaving california

DanJARMouse · 17/03/2009 12:12

Califrau has been here a lot longer than 2005.

And breathe...

Fair enough to say you are leaving, but a bit off to lay the blame at Califrau's door.

Good luck with RL.

dizzydixies · 17/03/2009 12:16

sorry to hear you've real life issues going on but wouldn't you think that they'd make you realise there are more important things to get upset about than a user name for on here?

take a break, breath, get everything sorted and come back with or without Cali in tow, we'll all probably still be here

pooka · 17/03/2009 12:16

Yes Califrau has been here since before 2005, but she hasn't been cali frau for so long.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 17/03/2009 12:16

Califrau's been a member since 2000.

Change your name and come back with a clean slate

HecatesTwopenceworth · 17/03/2009 12:16

crikey. really? you're leaving because of that? just change your name if it bothers you. Otherwise, just ignore people who moan about it!

Niftyblue · 17/03/2009 12:18

There are loads of names on here that are similar
Just change it if you feel that strong about it

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 17/03/2009 12:19

Sorry missed Pooka's comment.

Don't blame Califrau for other posters' comments - I always thought you were 2 people, they are different names after all.

AlistairSim · 17/03/2009 12:23

Shame you feel the need to go, I never mixed you up.

Hope you change your mind and come back(as Cali!)

sorry to hear you have rl issues. I am a bit at the need to blame califrau for your leaving. A break is always good.

Who thinks you are the same person? Califrau doesn't seem like the type to have a go over something so trivial.

I have always known you are two people.

If you feel you need a break, take one. But there really isn't need to cause such a fuss over nicknames, change it, keep it, leave. It really doesn't matter that much.

I hope thing in rl sort themselves for you and you come back happier

arfishy · 17/03/2009 13:05

I'm sorry if you're having RL issues. Are they really so bad that you feel the need to leave mumsnet over a name clash?

Califrau has never been nasty to anybody ever in the history of mumsnet, and she only ever posts in a different timezone. Why is this such a big thing?

MrsMattie · 17/03/2009 13:06

I know I am in the minority on MN as a fan of hip hop, but am I the only one tempted to break out into 'Going (going) back (back) to cali (Cali)?'

rubyslippers · 17/03/2009 13:07

i have never mixed you up

there are about a million rubys and permutations thereof on MN ... seems to work just fine

BUT sometimes a break from MN does the power of good

Well, you obviously forgot about these posts then, I had to namechange a while back and wanted to check if I had posted anything under my usual name by mistake at the beginning of March, which is how I found them.

Whenever the issue of people having similar names arises, instead of being so quick to point out that I am not you etc, I have always maintained that mumsnet is big enough for all of us who have similar names and have never thought very much about it.
As you rightly said, our paths rarely cross but you do seem to have a problem with someone having part of your name, even though we don't really own our nicknames and my name here has always been cali since I joined in 2005.
That is until today.

Could you not be CarmenSanDiego??!!
There is already a Cali and she very often gets mistaken for me and vice versa so you might have a few probs!

By CarmenSanDiego on Tue 03-Mar-09 09:19:14
Brilliant suggestion Califrau, thank you! Sorry for toe-treading.

By Califrau on Tue 03-Mar-09 15:40:41
my toes are numb from Cali so don't worry but it has caused no end of confusion with everybody

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 17/03/2009 17:59

Cali!

Sorry to hear about rl problems. Have had some lovely conversations with you and it will be a real shame if you leave

differentID · 17/03/2009 18:15

Cali, I've been wondering where you'd got to! You are a lovely person to talk to. So sorry that rl is not treating you kindly atm.

Northernlurker · 17/03/2009 18:24

Oh good grief how pathetic! I though we were supposed to be grown women here?

Cali - by all means leave if mumsnet doesn't suit your needs - but to post basically attacking Califrau - and scour the archives to justify yourself is really unnecessary!

SlubberdegullionMaNaMaNa · 17/03/2009 18:29
