Your second guess, madamez, is correct.

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 09:44

Why are there so many "woo-addled bucketheads" on here? It seems more widespread than on any other forum I've ever read or posted on. The only thing I can think - and I hesitate to say it, because it sounds slightly sexist - is that this place is 95% female, and so women are more into all this crap. You don't tend to get blokes banging on about aromatherapy or crystal-gazing.

Habbibu · 30/05/2008 09:46

Just slightly sexist, UQD? Or quite a lot sexist? You beast.

Cappuccino · 30/05/2008 09:46

oh UQD you never went to Babycentre

they had had more woo to addle them over there than you could ever fit in a bucket

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 09:47

Sorry, habbibu, but it's the only reason i could think of.

Habbibu · 30/05/2008 09:47

And to be fair, UQD, Ben Goldacre seems to have most of his tiffs with men!

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 09:48

True. That could be because he is male, of course, and so picks his fights.

Habbibu · 30/05/2008 09:49

Pffft! Bad Science chivalry!

Cappuccino · 30/05/2008 09:49

it's because we are talking about life, UQD

and it is what we face 247 it is like unbelievably hard and no-one fucking understands us, right?

Marina · 30/05/2008 09:50

I renounce flounce.
Honestly, I never normally bother grumbling about topics or not, but like wasps, what's this for please MNHQ? did you leave an Apprentice in charge over half-term?

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 09:51

You could be right, cappuccino...

Cappuccino · 30/05/2008 09:51

oh talk to the hand UQD

I just can't take any more of this

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 09:52

marina -

Now imagining Justine in power-suit saying "I've been in the parenting and website-running business for 20 years. This IS the job interview from hell."

OsmosisBanana · 30/05/2008 09:52

What does woo mean?

Cappuccino · 30/05/2008 09:52

(actually I think you are supposed to shout at me for being a bad mother, if we are actually channelling Jeremy Vine)

tortoiseSHELL · 30/05/2008 09:52

I think they all got pissed and thought it would be REALLY funny!

But no.

Cappuccino · 30/05/2008 09:54

it is great

if we hide it then we will never know people went

they always come back in about 2 minutes to tell us they are a) drunk or b) sorry or c) having difficulty shifting a stubborn stain

Marina · 30/05/2008 09:55

PMSL at stubborn stain, that's a fine way to refer to your dh capp

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 09:56

osmosis - woo is the general term for anything crystal-waving, paranormal, "alternative", dippy-hippy, pesuedo-sciencey.

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 09:57

pseudo sorry

HereComeTheGirls · 30/05/2008 10:00

I think this corner is a genius idea...anyone contemplating a big dramatic attention seeking flounce will immediately feel stupid as they have to post it in "flouncer's corner"!

fullmoonfiend · 30/05/2008 10:05

hmm, to hide or not to hide...

Then again I'm so self absrobed, I never notice if people have gone or not.

stuffitllama · 30/05/2008 10:07

uqd you are not a fan of ben goldacre are you ?

i can forgive aggressive atheism and even shed sulking but that man

never

stuffitllama · 30/05/2008 10:47

unquiet a lightbulb has litted in my head

you are he aren't you

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 11:38

No, I'm not Ben. Promise.

And so-called "aggressive" or "militant" atheism is just the reasonable person's response to the encroachment of superstition into our daily lives.
