well i went and saw it last night and i had been so excited about it. the film itself was great, i loved it all, still had the magical feel about it

BUT

what the hell is that stupid oompa loompa about. . i apologise but i cannot believe how much he f**ked me off. i was getting really angry towards the end. Couldnt understand what he was singing most of the time either!!!

sorry rant over, just ruined the film in which had he not been in it would have been fantastic

i also hated him and didnt like the film as much as the original. however ds (4) said he loved it and prefered it to the first one. not sure if the huge bag of popcorn had anything to do with that opinion tho

I agree - the original was much better and it's largly due to the Oompa Loompa.

that's all right then sm

OH would you bundle, would you? Every time me and dh went to Holloway road Odeon we got a cup of drink lobbed at us from the back regions of the cinema. But you don't have to recreate that kid of authenticity you really don't

bundle · 02/08/2005 11:42

we saw madagascar there. on the 2nd "bombs" day - there were only about 5 other people in there. I walked from oxford circus to mornington crescent, hailed down the Only Cab In Town and managed to persuade him (ex-copper, natch) to take me to 7 sisters rd. we missed the trailers, dd1 was miffed...but the holloway rd still has that magic

anteater · 02/08/2005 11:43

going tonight!!

suzywong · 02/08/2005 11:47

\link{http://chocolatefactorymovie.warnerbros.com/video.html\here] is the official website

ds1 knows all the words to the trailer and the clip already. I don't encourage him btw he likes it off his own bat

suzywong · 02/08/2005 11:48

bugger
one early evening gin and tonic and I lose the ability to do links properly

sweetmonkey · 02/08/2005 11:58

Well, we've just been to see it, and I was slightly disappointed. I thought it lacked the magic of the original, and I too HATED the oompa loompa - I loathed all the song and dance routines - what the hell was that all about? Johnny Depp looked great, but I thought he was trying too hard to be quirky and not really succeeding - hated his little 'giggle', he reminded me of Dustin Hoffman when he was in his female persona in Tootsie, and also very much like Michael Jackson - he didn't hit the spot for me. I didn't like the lack of incidental music - for instance when Charlie found the golden ticket it just didn't work, total silence and then a couple of luke warm responses from the people in the shop. No magic. And all the cute things in the original, the lickable wallpaper, the hands that grabbed the hats and coats, the throwing the coat in the mixture because it was too cold - there was nothing like that. Visually it was great though, loved the Buckets' house. But lack of music and good songs, no spark from Johnny, and no magic, plus the fact that Veruca and Violet were way too similar, left me slightly miffed.

Dahlia · 02/08/2005 22:22

Loved the squirrels though!

janeite · 02/08/2005 22:34

Well i LOVED the Oompa Loompa - best bit about the whole film - generally couldn't see the point of it as it was pretty similar to original. Johnny Depp freakishly like Michael Jackson though, which was quite amusing!

amylou · 03/08/2005 21:25

I want to take my 5yr old? any ideas why its a PG and not a U?

WigWamBam · 03/08/2005 21:26

Apparently there's some mild swearing in it, amylou.
