Okay - anyone seen this yet? I saw it at midnight and just wondered what peoples thoughts were.

I loved it - managed to sneak away to watch it this pm as dh won't take me....sat alone with a bag of sweets and a cuppa!! Through the books I was always a Team Edward player, but think I may have been converted - Taylor did a great job. Thought the Cullens did look a bit better, but wish they'd sort Jasper out. And Alice's Italy dress was awful, but Esme and Rosalie def looked better. Loved loved loved the wolves. Felt Bella's pain....I have been there for sure.Had the odd tear rolling down my face , but agree that perhaps we should have seen him clearing out all the photos, taking her cd etc so it was really like he never was there.

Eclipse was my fav book, as I loved the interplay between Edward and Jacob, so cannot wait til next year!!! (will be first in the queue for the dvd, I'm afraid, in the meantime).

To those who say it's rubbish....I ask you, did you ever think it would be an Oscar winner? No - it's designed to portray the books, which they do on the whole, pretty well, and to appeal to the masses of fans. I think they do credible jobs. TBH RP doesn't have a lot to work with in this book imo as he's not there for most of it and when he is he's a tortured soul. The opportunities to lighten up are few and far between.

JimJam, no sorry I don't actually think it was a particularly well made film. There were so many things that made me stop enjoying the story and made me thing 'what...what is that, why have they done that?'

The CGI on the wolves was poor (imho). They were not much better than the wargs in LOTR and that was made over 5 years ago.

The wispy visions of Edward were clunky and lazily done.

The hair and make up and costumes were AWFUL. In the books and my head they are meant to draw you in with their intoxicating beauty. they just look terribly badly done in the film, almost like they are the walking dead (so not a good look).

KS has 4 facial expressions. I did not feeeel for her one little bit.

The voice over/ made up e-mails to Alice...come on now again just a spectacularly lazy way to explain Bellas emotions.

Alices vision was comedic (was it meant to be?), and why do we need to see it anyway? Michael Sheen is a great actor, I'm sure he could of acted his way around that, and leave us in a bit more suspense as to what may be.

The film did not do justice to the book imo, and no amount of pretty boy rippling muscles could hide that.

AvadaKedavra · 25/11/2009 19:06

Film was shit.

I've not read the books though so I don't know if the blame lies with what they were given to work with.

Hideous wooden acting, either totally underacting or completely over acting (except for wolf boy and Michael Sheen). I couldn't muster up any empathy/sympathy/care for any of the characters.

After seeing the brilliant jobs done with the Harry Potter movies I expected a LOT more.

sincitylover · 25/11/2009 21:16

Have just seen this and it seemed to come from the clenched jaw school of acting.

Thought Edward was pretty hot shame about lack of facial expression.

Thought some of the scenes were well done.

DS2 (8) loved it.

SciFiFan · 26/11/2009 12:39

I have to way in in favour of the film. I've been looking forward to it for months and on the whole I wasn't disappointed.

I loved the ending, loved Victoria's hair (so much more how I imagined it in the book), loved Jacob's buff body and Edward's Italy scenes and though the Volturi stuff was excellent.

I do agree that the hair and make up for Carlisle, Rosalie and in particular Jasper wasn't right but it didn't detract to much from the rest.

Overall I was happy - it was closer to the book than Twilight and I can't wait a) to see it again and b) for Eclipse.

sfxmum · 26/11/2009 12:52

went to see it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it, given I knew the sort of thing I was in for but seriously
laughed out loud the first time Jacob took his T shirt off and and when the vision sequence came on - hilarious

sfxmum · 26/11/2009 12:55

and why on earth did they spend time talking nonsense when they should be kissing once she saves him?
(yes I know that drivel is in the book)

wintera · 28/11/2009 20:32

I've just been to watch it with my niece. Very very dreary on the whole I thought. Twilight was much better. Bella has to be the most irritating character ever! Can't stand her. Just wanted to shake her by the shoulders to be honest. However, I loved the Voltori Vampires. Wish they would just make a film all about them. They were by far the most interesting characters. Michael Sheen acted everyone else off the screen!

MattBellamysMuse · 06/12/2009 01:27

I loved this film - just saw it tonight. Much better made than Twilight, much closer to the book. And a very obviously bigger budget. Considering it's the least exciting of the four books, they did a very good job. Can't wait for Eclipse now (although that has a different director so it may not be as good).

jeep · 12/12/2009 17:35

why didn't bella try to stop the tourists going into the volturi. especially as there were children.

not very nice of them. thought they were meant to be appealing vampires

TheMysticMasseuse · 12/12/2009 18:08

i much preferred twilight to new moon, now this may have something to do with complete crush on robert pattinson but... basically twilight is the strongest of the 4 books, the whole falling in love thing i thought was amazingly well done, the chemistry between Kirsten Stewart and R-Patz excellent, so yes the makeup was dodgy and special effects non existent but that wasn't what it was all about...

new moon is more spectacular but really suffers from the lack of edward, you just don't get what is going through bella's head, she looks boring and self-absorbed, and all the running around shirtless was hilarious (esp as Jacob is the only buff one in the pack, some of the others are positively scrawny). i think makeup and hair were still dodgy on new moon, and wtf with the clothes? Alice was wearing my grandmother's coat and edward was basically in blue overalls the whole time. didn't appreciate the dressing gown the volturi gave him either, surely he could have stayed a bit shirtless too ?

BUT- wolfboy was very good (and not just his pecs). volturi were excellently creepy as was Victoria. and i trust that as soon as Edward is back for good in Eclipse we'll see some nice sizzling chemistry in the love triangle bit (although i am not sure the new director- of american pie fame- has the same sensitivity of Chatherine Hardwicke and i wouldn't be surprised if he just skipped over anything too romantically intense- that would be a shame)

I do fear, however, that the actor playing Jasper will never be up to his role and that, i predict, will be the weakest link in part 3.

TheMysticMasseuse · 12/12/2009 18:14

oh- just realised eclipse has yet another director, a horror flicks guy. v disappointing. it'll probably be heavy on the vampire wars and light on the repressed desire/love affair. bah

thesteelfairy · 21/12/2009 19:34

Absolutely loved this but not as much as Twilight I have to say. I found the romance and falling in love bit in Twilight totally consuming and thought that Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart really managed to bring the intensity of the book to life, even dare I say it, expressing it better than the book. I love it.

New Moon was fab and I loved Jacob and the Wolf Pack but found the vampires, apart from Edward a little irritating. Alice's clothes were awful, Jaspers's hair inexplicable and just not enough of Edward, although I realise that is the point of the book.

My favourite parts in the whole movie though was any part with Victoria or the Wolf Pack in it, thought she was fab in both of them and really disappointed that the actress who plays her is not going to be in Eclipse. Volturi scene at the end was pretty good as well.

On the whole I loved it but not as much as Twilight.
