to not understand how anybody can enjoy horror movies?

What would you get out of watching people get killed in various horrific, violent ways?

Not all horror movies are like Saw.

You've got to watch the zombie films to perfect your plan.

My dp doesn't enjoy them but only because they look so fake, and he mainly laughs through them as he thinks they look ridculous.

i however cringe they whole way through and barely watch them

I enjoy horror films though I tend to favour films based on scares and suspense rather than on gore.

i love them but i do a lot of peeping through fingers. i don't like silly stuff like halloween - it has to be reeeealistic.

I don't bother with the gore-fests. But a good scary psychological one like The Others, The Orphanage, or Dark Water, on the other hand...

It's good to be scared, gets the juices flowing

Interesting that the ones I thought of all involve motherhood though...

I hate them and totally avoid them.

I watch How Clean is Your House through my fingers, never mind How To Hack A Nubile Teenager To Bits In Imaginative New Ways 2.

I like the idea of suspense but not the really bad ones.

But some are too much- even dh had to turn off Mirrors cos it was so awful.

I hate the visceral slasher type stuff, but enjoy a proper psychological chiller. Love horror fiction as well.

I started a thread about this the other day - I just don't understand how violence is entertaining. I know that sounds sanctimonious but it's true! I have absolutely no idea how people can watch them.

Although to be fair of the horror films I've watched I've been either bored because the "suspense" is so obvious or just disgusted.

This reminds me of a stand up comedian (FRankie Boyle? I can't remember) saying that Michael Jackson's world bestselling album was basically mistitled.

The album, song and video should quite obviously be named 'Horror'.

I love a good thriller, me. Especially an Alfred Hitchcock.

It isn't the violence that I find entertaining. I enjoy being scared. I enjoy the suspense.

I've just seen the trailer for Last House House On The Left- going to give that a bodyswerve I think! I don't like ones which play on your fear of something actually happening...I couldn't cope with Wolf Creek, for example (although I did snigger when I heard that the actor gets a laugh out of trying to pick up hitch-hikers ).

I think I prefer the ones with a supernatural element, because I can be scared but still keep them at arms length IYSWIM.

I love Saw (all 5 of them) and Hostel...I like a bit of gore...

I like the idea of being frightened by a movie and feel a teensy bit excited when one is on the tele.

But then I'm a total woos and can't watch most of it. Used to be more resilient, remember we watched stuff like Chucky at boarding school for a laugh, can't watch much at all post dc.

not all horror movies are gore fests, i like the really creepy ones like The Others, or The Shining, or The Grudge - really creepy - and the best horror film ive ever seen is 28
Days Later...low budget british horror and absolutely brilliant, scared me to death though!

I can watch ones that are pretty much fantasy, zombies, ghosts etc, I like the suspense and watching them through my fingers.

It's the ones that could be real that I hate, I spent pretty much the whole of Saw with my fingers in my ears and my head buried in dps chest. I don't like the over gory ones or any torture.

Of course BOF.Just let me know when so I can stock up on goodies.

I love the 70's / 80's ones...new ones are cack, especially remakes like Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

But then DH's favourite film ever is the original Dawn of the Dead...I think his tastes have rubbed off on me over the years..

I have a photographic memory so scary films really do give me nightmares. I just don't watch them anymore.

I don't like gory films. Films like Blairwitch which suggest supernatural events but don't actually show anything too nasty I can watch.
