DP and I want to watch a DVD tonight, but can't think what films we have missed in the cinema that should be out by now.

We like sci fi, or action/thriller stuff. DP says 'if you ask mumsnet we'll get romcoms' so please prove him wrong!

Tell us what you have enjoyed please!

I know it's Friday night and you're all busy with bumsex but come on, nothing at all?

changeling-quite harrowing

21- is quite good ,about card counting in Las vegas

LastOrders · 08/05/2009 18:46

The Orphanage. By the makers of Pans Labyrinth.

It's fantastic and both me & SIL went Wow When it finished.

And not a romcom. So there, Mr Trillian

TrillianAstra · 08/05/2009 18:51

Thanks, will look up the Orphanage, hadn't heard of it.

I cannot watch Changeling, got completely put off by Angelina in the trailer wailing about 'I want MY son'.

oh no, orphanage was meh and

purpleduck · 08/05/2009 18:53

I have enjoyed:
7 Pound (not sure its out yet)
IronMan
Hancock

Flamesparrow · 08/05/2009 18:55

DH says Batman.

TrillianAstra · 08/05/2009 18:55

My friends are divided on Pan's Labyrinth too, although one I think is just disappointed because she tought there would be more fairies/monsters and less real-world stuff.

Suggestions Flame? There must have been some sci fi sometime in 2008 that was worth watching!

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 08/05/2009 18:55

Oh the jackie Chan/Jet Li one was good too.

TrillianAstra · 08/05/2009 18:56

We saw Batman. DP hates Will Smith. Why? I have no idea. He also hates Tom Hanks, if that helps. And Julia Roberts too, I think.

Iron Man looks promising...

(who wants to shoot the idea down in flames?)

Another vote for 21. We watched it last weekend and it's really comelling. Iron man is good

Flamesparrow · 08/05/2009 19:02

I fancy iron man

Flamesparrow · 08/05/2009 19:02

what happened to wolverine?!

TrillianAstra · 08/05/2009 19:05

Too lazy to go out-out. We want to drink wine while watching whatever we're watching . Will definitely see Wolverine at some point. And Star Trek.

OP posts:
purpleduck · 08/05/2009 19:08

Saw Wolverine last week - loved it
Naked Hugh..;.

sweetcat · 08/05/2009 19:08

No Country for old men - best film I have seen for a long time. No good at names but what a thriller.

TrillianAstra · 08/05/2009 19:15

Thanks everyone.

DP has now had texts entreating us to go to the pub, so might go to DVD shop via pub or something. So we do have to go 'out' after all. Hope you all have nice evenings

PS Flame you fancy iron man in what way exactly?

OP posts:
JacquelineBouvier · 08/05/2009 19:19

In bruges. It's a very black comedy, i loved it. definitely not a rom com

TrillianAstra · 11/05/2009 16:37

Thanks for the Iron Man recommendation, I definitely enjoyed it.

DP said it was good because it set a particular level of implausibility (the thingy in his chest) and then stuck with it. Things didn't suddenly get more outlandish parttway through.

muggglewump · 11/05/2009 16:43

Not all recent but over the last few months I've loiked:
7 Pounds
Slumdog Millionaire (amazing film, love, love, love it)
Red Road
Life is Beautiful
The Woodsman (Good but about a peadophile)
Sophie's Choice
Saw 5 (and the other Saw films)
Au revoir les enfants
Brokeback Mountain (still great, particularly the sex scenes )
17 Again.
Madagascar 2.

All quite different really but worth a look I think.

muggglewump · 11/05/2009 16:44

loiked?
Clearly I'm turning Irish!

AnnieShamrockInYourEar · 11/05/2009 16:47

In Bruges. Some violent bits, but overall very clever, and quite funny.

muggglewump · 11/05/2009 17:19

If anyone's interested in saving a wee bit of cash on DVD hire this might be a useful site.

Molesworth · 11/05/2009 17:22

I loved In Bruges too - didn't realise Colin Farrell could be such a good comic actor
