  • which we both adored

We rarely get a bit of 1-to-1 time (3yo DD2 gets easily bored by movies) but will have a morning together on Mon before she goes back to school - what shall I get?

She's (we're) not keen on animations, loves musicals - past favourites include Wizard of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Annie, and more recently the Secret of Moonacre ...

Is Oliver too scary?

My dd loves Hairspray, she is now 7 but watched it when she was 6 and the slight bits of innuendo went over her head.

I know Lion King and Aladdin are animated but the songs are great, pity there isn't a DVD of the stage show of Lion King, it's fantastic.

Can you get Bugsy Malone on DVD?

Molesworth · 13/04/2009 22:55

The Sound of Music?

cheekysealion · 13/04/2009 22:56

matilda?
nanny mcphee
annie
mary poppins

Plonker · 13/04/2009 22:56

Sound of Music (a firm fav still with my dd's)

We also like Mamma Mia. My dd's love to sing to it and the adult stuff goes right over their heads (they are 9 and 6).

islandofsodor · 13/04/2009 22:58

Oh of course, the Sound of Music, that sounds like it would be perfect for your dd and MAry Poppins.

franch · 13/04/2009 23:00

Seen Oliver, Lion King, Annie, Mary Poppins and Mamma Mia - all great choices tho (she doesn't scare easy )

Weirdly, I've never seen Sound of Music myself so guess it's probably time for that - great idea.

Fancy Hairspray too although I'm hoping to take her to the stage show

Thanks for the other ideas - will get through them all I'm sure

My dd [8] loves Mamma Mia.

Thunderduck · 13/04/2009 23:31

You can get Bugsy Malone on dvd. Usually for £3. I love it.

franch · 13/04/2009 23:43

pipsqueak · 14/04/2009 00:38

princess diaries or aquamarine both paopular wiht my dd2 aged 6yrs also cinderella stories i think

savoycabbage · 14/04/2009 00:40

Bugsy Malone is brilliant!

Also I loved Calamity Jane, Singing in the Rain and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers when I was little. I only used to watch The Sound of Music up to the part when they are at the concert as I did scare easily!

savoycabbage · 14/04/2009 00:42

Grease!

Thunderduck · 14/04/2009 01:15

The King And I is great too.

MarmadukeScarlet · 14/04/2009 01:31

Get Enchanted if you haven't already seen it - it is a brilliant film.

I still find myself humming/singing the songs every now and then

abbierhodes · 14/04/2009 01:58

Another vote here for Nanny McPhee! And Grease.

franch · 14/04/2009 11:15

Oh yeah, should've mentioned Enchanted as another of our favourites Marmaduke

Thanks for all the other suggestions - can't wait to get through them ...

DD has loved the HSM Trilogy (she is 6) and now has moved onto Hannah Montana (new film out soon) and Camp Rock.

We like the idea of her watching Grease (she has already seen the last 10 mins) and Mamma Mia but think the overall story lines will be too adult for her.

She is chomping for HSM4 to come out (not until next year unfortunately for her).

pointydog · 17/04/2009 22:50

ooo Calamity Jane, calamity Jane!

dd2 loved calamity jane when she was that age. SHe likes musicals (I don;t, but I put up with them for her happy little face)

pointydog · 17/04/2009 22:51

hmm grease, there is a condom scene and preganncy related ones and virginity ones in that. I didn't feel too thrilled when dd2 watched that aged 6 (after grandma bought it for her)

blametheparents · 17/04/2009 23:02

Enchanted is great

franch · 18/04/2009 11:41

Thanks all! Butkin I just read an interview with Zac Efron that said no HSM4 - ? DD1 has seen Mamma Mia and the plot went over her head but she still loved it.

Wow pointydog I'd forgotten all that - will hold off Grease for a while in that case ...

Franch I believe there is going to be an HSM4 out next year, but not with all the previous cast and certainly not with Zac or Vanessa.

Apparently characters like Tiara Gold (the "baddie" English girl in HSM3) are going to appear however.

purepurple · 18/04/2009 23:11

muppet treasure island
