My 2.7 year old has enjoyed Sleeping Beauty and Toy Story...Wasn't too enamoured with Monsters Inc (didn't quite get all those one dimensional flat doors that opened up into three dimensional kid's rooms)

any other good kid's films with plots simple enough for a toddler to follow and enjoy?

We also have a Christmas dvd which is a compilation of short stories involving Mickey Mouse, Donald etc. Dd loves that. Are there any other good Mickey Mouse etc dvd's?

Hi hmc my ds is nearly 3 and he didn't get monstors inc either. He loves Toy story, toy story 2 and will sometimes watch the lion king, but that's about it. So I will follow this thread with interest.

katierocket · 09/03/2005 10:48

sleeping beauty
cinderella
the rescuers
mary poppins

A lot of the disney classics TBH

katierocket · 09/03/2005 10:49

ebay is really good for getting cheap disney vids/dvds

katierocket · 09/03/2005 10:50

oh and monsters inc scared my 3 yr old - he din't get the irony of the fact that the monsters were actually nice

flamesparrow · 09/03/2005 10:54

Shrek 1 & 2!!! My little lady loves em.

Oh, and any classic disney with lots of singing and Dick Van Dyke!

handlemecarefully · 09/03/2005 10:55

dd wasn't scared by Monsters Inc - more sort of uncomprehending!

Northerner - I always assumed that the Lion King was for older children and might be a bit complicated (but I know nothing about the film, so don't know why I made that assumption) - perhaps I should give it a whirl

be careful of lion king though. Depends on how sensitive your little one is and whether you want to tackle the whole dying thing yet because the bit where the daddy lion king dies is quite sad.

northerner · 09/03/2005 11:02

hmc - I don't like the lion king actually. I find it a bit scary, and probably a bit too old for him. But he know's I don't like it, hence his requests to watch it.

Think I might try more of the disney classics, 101 dalmatins springs to mind.

katierocket · 09/03/2005 11:02

ooooo..forgot 101 dalmations - another one of DS's favs. Disney classics are great

Niddlynono · 09/03/2005 11:04

My 2.5 year old loves Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc and The Jungle Book.

colditzmum · 09/03/2005 11:05

Don't forget the wizard of oz!!!! My brother loved that at the age of 2!

HardcoreEnid · 09/03/2005 11:06

Winnie the pooh.

a lot of disney too old IMO.

dd2 is 2.5 and loves winnie the pooh - can't sit through a whole movie though.

Aristocats is a good one - non-scary.

my 2.7 year old has just watched Peter Pan and loves it - especially as we used to play 'follow the leader' ages ago (one of the songs to those who have grown up!). He also likes Jungle Book, sort of likes Monster Inc.

handlemecarefully · 09/03/2005 11:08

Lots of suggestions here - excellent.

Btw nearly killed dh the other day, walked into living room to find dd perched on his knee watching Lord of the rings with him!!!!

hmc - that gave me nightmares!

Bozza · 09/03/2005 11:10

DS had the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh which is quite harmless. Also enjoyed Toy Story 1 & 2 at that age.

Bozza · 09/03/2005 11:11

DS (4) has seen the scene in LOTR where there is Bilbo's leaving party with Gandalf's fireworks and that is it!

flamesparrow · 09/03/2005 17:53

B has seen quite a bit of LOTR! Although she has been exposed to Buffy since newborn, so I think she thinks they are more vampires!

Sat there a few months ago discussing with my friend when we should stop letting her watch our films (she was about 18 months then, and normally stayed up with us), and then put in Dawn of The Dead... she saw a Zombie and screamed - that was the end of films with mummy! Except lotr...

Hulababy · 09/03/2005 17:58

DD is 2y 11m and her current favourite fils are Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. She enjoyed watching Shrek on the plane last summer, and quite likes Nemo too. She enjoyed Mary Poppins at Chrstmas. And also Tigger the Movie - bit she does get a bit bored with it now she is getting a bit older.

DD will watch her fave films over and over given the chance, and loves the Disney musical type ones.

Oh, and she loves singing along to Grease too!

Laylasmum · 09/03/2005 18:00

my dd nearly 3 loves snow white, peter pan, cinderella, beauty and the beast, nemo , current fave is shark tale!!

gingerbear · 09/03/2005 18:08

I tried to watch Bambi with DD the other day.
Me - box of tissues and floods of tears.
DD - why are you crying mummy???
Her faves are Nemo, Shark Tale, 101 Dalmatians and Dumbo.
She also loves the Simpsons.
