Marley's in Marley and me

This one isn’t fictional (despite what lowlifes on Facebook would have you believe) but this thread reminded me, I first read the Diary of Anne Frank before I knew she died in the Holocaust. I will never forget the stark shock of that note at the end.

Quinn from Homeland. I sobbed for days afterwards. It was quite unhinged 💔

Edited

OMG yes, the whole series affected me. Brody’s death and the scene where they were in the car, Quinn driving and were surrounded by a mob. One was dragged out and beaten. I still have nightmares and don’t like driving though crowds….

Echobelly · 14/11/2025 18:08

Nighteyes in Robin Hobb's Fitz and the Fool series, his death is almost understated which is why it hits so hard 😭

Fitchecktomynapalmera · 14/11/2025 18:10

Tris from Divergent (the books, not the movies version).
Snape from Harry Potter
Prim Everdeen from The hunger games

MyAcornWood · 14/11/2025 18:13

opie in sons of anarchy, that was so brutal. Jax’s also made me cry for probably an hour after the episode finished but he wasn’t such a good egg as opie so it didn’t feel quite so cruel.

Dollymylove · 14/11/2025 18:13

Richard Hillman in Corrie 🤣🤣

The girl in Bridge to Terabithia.

I took the then 7 year old DS and his best pal to see that at the cinema. We all left feeling devastated, quite spoiled the weekend.

girlfromthesouthcountry · 14/11/2025 18:15

Emma in One Day.

MyAcornWood · 14/11/2025 18:15

Oh and Matthias in the Shadow and Bone / Six of Crows world. Both the book and the tv series, altho the two differed a lot.

DrNo007 · 14/11/2025 18:15

Henchard in The Mayor of Casterbridge. I was sort of in love with him as a kid.

Soonenough · 14/11/2025 18:15

Nana in Royle Family but even before she died singing Que sera sera with Barbara had me in floods.
Jon Snow in GOT
Most of After Life knowing Lisa was dead.

OnceIn · 14/11/2025 18:16

Captain Vain from Black Sails

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 14/11/2025 18:17

In the Book Thief, the character of Death tells you that the wee German boy dies but it was still a shock when it happened.

whenyouwereyoung · 14/11/2025 18:17

Emma from One Day 🥲

Giggorata · 14/11/2025 18:17

Wash in Firefly (hope this isn't a massive spoiler, it's been years)
Kai in Lexx (he started the series off by dying)
Fred in Angel (she may still have been walking around, but it wasn't her)

and Granny Weatherwax, of course.

Olive567 · 14/11/2025 18:20

The Home Secretary (think that was her role) in Bodyguard.

ginasevern · 14/11/2025 18:21

Toby Wren in Doomwatch. You'd have to be pretty old (as am I) to know what the hell I'm talking about.
