Recommendations, please. Along the lines of "Drive Angry", "Re-Animator" or "The Evil Dead". Preferably with a supernatural element, rather than slasher films. Nothing of any artistic merit.

Thanks

@SauceryI’m so glad you mentioned Black Sheep - that would be my recommendation.

CalzoneOnLegs · 29/07/2025 20:25

The Wicker Man, not the Nicolas cage remake although that’s good for a giggle

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 29/07/2025 20:32

Planet Terror - Tarantino mutant zombies. Fabulous.

Cockneys Vs Zombies- great fun.

It Stains the Sands Red- more zombies in the desert, excellent zombie effects, strong woman protagonist, probably the fancier of the three I've mentioned but a cracking watch and I recommend.

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 29/07/2025 20:33

Oh!

Dog Soldiers! It's ridiculous and violent and funny and there's sausages.

FrippEnos · 29/07/2025 20:58

And the lesser quoted line

"I hope I give you the shits"

Two great picks and a classy zombie movie I haven’t heard of - must investigate!

I've been having a think.

Dance of the Dead- zombies, prom night.

Scout's Guide to The Zombie Apocalypse - what it says.

Edit to add From Dusk Till Dawn, vampires and Tarantino, possibly the best film ever made.

LuckyNumberFive · 29/07/2025 21:12

"Dead End."

Fits the bill perfectly.

I wouldn’t say The Wicker Man is at all trashy. Absolutely fantastic though! One of my favourite films of all time.

There's an American film that came out about the same time. It has a similar plot. A preacher is travelling through the West of America with his wife and children. He gets into problems in the desert and is rescued by these townsfolk. They seem very nice and encourage him to be their preacher. What he doesn't realise is that they plan to sacrifice him at the next total eclipse. It's called Black Noon.

First they have to corrupt him. There is what looks like a teenage girl, a mute. He ends up having an inappropriate relation with her. They have been poisoning his wife so that she seems ill and they can't leave till she gets better.

It all comes to a head when he is giving a sermon to the townsfolk and making an admission of guilt. He hears a few sniggers in the congregation which puzzle him. They start laughing at him. He runs out and finds his wife. She is dead in her bed.

The townsfolk gather round him in the bedroom. They each tell him their witch names. They have lived for thousands of years by sacrificing someone at the total eclipse. The 'mute' girl comes forward and he asks "Who are you?". She replies "I am Lilith, the witch who loved Adam before Eve".

Actually, 'Sinister Bum-Faced Cat' sounds like a horror film I'd like to see...

🙀

CalzoneOnLegs · 29/07/2025 22:49

@TerrierCollector i suppose it’s not on the whole but the Britt Ekland fertility dance was awful 🙈

Anna and the Apocalypse (what part of a Christmas zombie musical is bad)
Tucker and Dale versus Evil (just hilarious)
Razor Blade Smile
Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (I honestly didn't make that up)

Holy Moly! I just watched the trailer for JCVH. I spat out my coffee! Absolute genius!

Yup. And you can now watch it for free on Plex. When I first encountered it 20 years or so ago I had to import the DVD fom Canada.

My all-time fav trashy horror is Theatre of Blood.

I love Theatre of Blood, it’s great fun, but it’s got artistic merit imo!

SuperBlondie28 · 23/10/2025 20:03

Not really a film as such (well sort of) but the TV series based on the Evil Dead films. With Bruce Campbell. 3 seasons. Each episode about 30 mins. But delightfully funny and gory. I've collected them on DVD. Love them !

I love the Evil Dead films as well.

Castle Freak mentioned earlier. Amazingly my hubby has it on VHS still. Shame the video player has packed up.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 23/10/2025 21:26

Trashy horror..Killer Sofa

Starch1e · 23/10/2025 21:54

Seconding recommendations for Lair of The White Worm, Tremors and Dog Soldiers 😁

CuddlesKovinsky · 23/10/2025 22:17

Watched Carnival of Souls the other night. Loved it. 1962, some fabulously cack-handed acting, bleak locations, crazy organ music that becomes almost a character in itself... If you're a 'cult film' person, it's for you...

pinkpony88 · 23/10/2025 22:55

sarsaparillatree · 28/07/2025 19:09

Trashy but maybe nor horror enough...
Tremors
Stonehenge Apocalypse
Bad Taste (a Peter Jackson film long before Lord of the Rings) It's a very silly slasher film.

Omg I’d forgotten all about bad taste! 🤣🤣🤣
