I've seen most of the usual ones- 2012, The day after tomorrow, Geostorm, The Core, Armageddon etc

Please recommend one I might not have seen? I love anything involving weather, climate change and such.

Oh thank you everyone! There's a few there that I've not seen- The Poseidon adventure being one of them I need to see. I remember enjoying Contagion, so might have to see that again. I don't think I've seen Quake either.

Threads on iplayer
The Day After, on youtube I think, American version of Threads
Silent Night

I love a good disaster movie but Threads is in a very different class. Most disaster movies will show you at least a few people battling the odds and surviving. Threads will leave you staring at the wall and contemplating ending it all. It's a remarkable film but, my word, is it bleak. I watched it as a teenager when it came out in the 80s and it made a powerful impact, one that I think I would probably have been better off not experiencing at that time of life.

@HowardTJMoon

Yes I agree about Threads

Disaster movies are really about specific incidents affecting a limited set of people
whilst the rest of the world continues merrily about its business.
Threads is the end of the world/civilization as we know it.
I watched it again recently even with limited special effects it was horrific. I don't think I would watch a remake with CGI etc

Lots of great recs already but you can't go wrong with some good old fashioned disaster movies from the 1970s.

Towering Inferno
Airport 1975
Poseidon Adventure (the remake is crud, don't bother with it but the Gene Hackman original is great)
Meteor

So many and all good fun.

You mean like when the Rock rescues his estranged wife in a helicopter, mid-earthquake, from the top of an exploding skyscraper where she's been having lunch with nasty Kylie Minogue, who is rude to a waitress and is thus killed, at around the same time as Nasty Kylie's brother Ioan Gruffudd, who abandons the Rock's daughter in a trapped car and is killed his cowardice and for not being the Rock? Cheese-o-rama. But fun. 😀

Don't forget the teen romance...🤣

Not a film but touching the void is worth a watch.

It's a true story with the people involved giving interviews as the narration.
