I've seen most of the usual ones- 2012, The day after tomorrow, Geostorm, The Core, Armageddon etc

Please recommend one I might not have seen? I love anything involving weather, climate change and such.

Greenland
The Impossible
New TV show La Palma
Moonfall (terrible but funny)
Twister/Twisters
Crawl (more low key but fun)
Sharknado if ridiculousness is your thing 😀

HowardTJMoon · 16/01/2025 14:30

I assume you've watched Twister, Volcano and San Andreas. The 70s had some good disaster movies although not much that had anything but a tangential relationship to the weather. The Poseidon Adventure? Towering Inferno?

HotCrossBunplease · 16/01/2025 14:31

World War Z

DazedandConfused1234 · 16/01/2025 14:33

Deep Impact is epic if you haven't seen it. The Wave is excellent too (Norwegian). There is a recent one with Jodie Comer - The End we start from. Also good.

seelookhearboo · 16/01/2025 14:37

Godzilla Minus One is really good

DecayingRelic · 16/01/2025 14:44

Doomsday
The Colony
The Road

Ridingthegravytrain · 16/01/2025 14:55

Everest

Godzilla Minus One is really good

Yes it is! Great film

JimHalpertsWife · 16/01/2025 15:09

Don't Look Up

The Martian (probs technically not a disaster movie but has the same elements, space, imminent death and the globe battles to solve the problem)

The Day After Tomorrow

roundaboutthehillsareshining · 16/01/2025 15:12

I wouldn't bother watching World War Z, but the book is excellent.

A Night to Remember - the original Titanic film
The Poseidon Adventure - preferably the original but the remake is fun

Uta100 · 16/01/2025 15:15

Dante’s Peak
Volcano

BlueRaincoat1 · 16/01/2025 15:15

I love disaster movies

Greenland
Godzilla Minus One and
San Andreas

Are all really good. Posedon Adventure and Towering inferno both awesome classics, the Poseidon remake is watchable too.

Deepwater Horozon is good.

Also Outbreak - not quite disaster like the other ones, but similar vibes.
The Wave - Norwegian I think, pretty good.

And if you haven't seen The Day After Tomorrow, it's classic disaster movie territory.

Hoppinggreen · 16/01/2025 15:17

Go old school and watch Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure.
Effects aren't as good but terrifying

Youtookmyhandle · 16/01/2025 15:18

I'd also say, Don't Look Up.

eurochick · 16/01/2025 15:18

Skyscraper
Armageddon

Upstartled · 16/01/2025 15:19

There's a pretty good series on Netflix too (Norwegian again) called La Palma, oh and that movie about the Boxing Day tsunami with Ewan McGregor, The Impossible.

Upstartled · 16/01/2025 15:20

San Andreas if you want to go full cheese though.

Youtookmyhandle · 16/01/2025 15:22

Also, The Day the Earth Stood Still.
The Wave.
Contagion.
The Road.
Outbreak.
28 Weeks Later.
Cloverfield.
BirdBox.
Children Of Men.

Youtookmyhandle · 16/01/2025 15:24

Also enjoyed, Omega Man and I Am Legend.

smooshraspberry · 16/01/2025 15:32

Placeholding with interest. Love a disaster movie!

mitogoshigg · 16/01/2025 15:34

The new mini series La palma is worth a watch. Won't win awards but classic disaster movie plot

schwabeschimney · 16/01/2025 15:37

The Abyss has to be the directors extended cut to be a disaster movie

IButtleSir · 16/01/2025 15:38

Deep Impact (classic 'meteor causing widespread destruction' one)

Contagion (pandemic one)

schwabeschimney · 16/01/2025 15:38

Sorry also put 12 monkeys in the mix.

San Andreas if you want to go full cheese though.

You mean like when the Rock rescues his estranged wife in a helicopter, mid-earthquake, from the top of an exploding skyscraper where she's been having lunch with nasty Kylie Minogue, who is rude to a waitress and is thus killed, at around the same time as Nasty Kylie's brother Ioan Gruffudd, who abandons the Rock's daughter in a trapped car and is killed his cowardice and for not being the Rock? Cheese-o-rama. But fun. 😀
