No mention of Maggie Smith's death?

Reading through an obituary, I thought this was cute.

Maggie Smith, grand dame of stage and screen, dies at 89
By Anita Gates and Robert Berkvist

“A lot of very small people kind of used to say hello to me, and that was nice,” she recalled on “The Graham Norton Show” in 2015. One boy carefully asked her, “Were you really a cat?”

Maggy Smith died in September . There was plenty of coverage.

I don’t understand the title of your post. What do you mean?

I looked at the posts here going back to September and see nothing.

There were a few threads at the time in chat and AIBU.

I think it’s such a long time in the Uk from death until the funeral (where I live it’s two or three days)

It was discussed here

Rest in Peace Maggie, a true legend who I silly adored on screen.

I typed "Maggie Smith" in the search bar next to the logo and this was one of the results:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5174999-rip-dame-maggie-smith

Which the person had pointlessly posted in an irrelevant forum! I constantly puzzle why so many people choose to post something in a general forum instead of the specific one where it is likelier to be seen by interested people.

Not irrelevant if it has more traffic than the film topic and therefore more people are likely to see it. 🙄

Be the change you want to see OP 😁

Vissi · 12/11/2024 07:27

Are you normally this needlessly enraged, OP? Chat gets far more traffic than Film. MS’s death was widely discussed, people’s favourite among her performances etc.

Singleandproud · 12/11/2024 07:30

There were about 20 threads at the time. Most people just look at 'Active' and don't bother going into individual boards. Maggie wasn't in that many films really she was predominantly on stage so the film section isn't the only place to post

There are some great clips on YT of her on the Carol Burnett show you may like.

PortiasBiscuit · 12/11/2024 07:51

We all hated Maggie Smith because she was in JK Rowling films.. oh no hang on.. that’s not us is it?

Sorry, but by that logic, why bother to have separate forums at all? Why doesn't everyone just dive into one big "Chat" about war or cancer or lipstick or poodles, or anything else?

OP posts:
xsquared · 15/11/2024 07:31

There probably are already threads in Chat about lipsticks, poodles, wars and cancers if you do a search. Chat is exactly that.

I'm sure you already know why there are separate forums.

You can have separate forums while still acknowledging that certain ones will get more traffic.

I'm glad obits tend to get posted more generally. Maggie was much more than a film actress.

ZenNudist · 15/11/2024 07:44

We definitely discussed it at the time. You must have missed it. I'd expect news like that to be on chat or AIBU for traffic

SweetSakura · 15/11/2024 07:46

I am so sorry that mumsnetters aren't using Mumsnet in a way you deem appropriate Flowers

Oh, sure. Ideally, it could have been posted as general news, cinema news, and television news.

Is this thread about Maggie Smith or about everyone doing everything wrong?

😆

jay55 · 21/11/2024 21:38

She was as much a stage and television actress as film one.
