Inspired by another thread, which films would you consider to have awful endings? Maybe didn't go the way you thought it should or had just a bit of a flat ending?

Mine is No Country For Old Men where the relentless killer (played brilliantly by Javier Bardem) eventually catches up with the main character's wife. She is pretty much an innocent bystander who's only 'crime' is to be married to a man that made a costly and stupid mistake. There is no real reason to kill her, but he does anyway. He tries to get her to say heads or tails beforehand, iimplying that she could have lived. The killer is then badly injured but still manages to get away and isn't caught by the very end.

Oooh good one! For me, 'worst endings' are ones in films that I thought were excellent, but for the ending.

  • 10 Cloverfield Lane

SPOILER
I think the 'reveal' that it's all really an alien invasion is brilliant as you really begin to believe that she's just being held hostage. But then it all goes to shit in the last 5 minutes as though the writers didn't know how to end it?

  • The Ritual

SPOILER:
Really creepy, well-executed small horror, about strange goings-on in the woods. But then it's some strange cult and they end up being sacrificed (I think?) and it just seems a bit pointless.

  • Cyrano

SPOILER:
I know it's based on a play (which I haven't seen, but assume the film follows accurately) but it seems like once the men went to war the writers didn't know what to do with it, and the story dragged on for too long after that with an unsatisfying resolution. I loved the story up until that point, and Wherever I Fall makes me cry every time I listen to it

I loved that you made sure you experienced them all just to be repeatedly disappointed 😂

I really don’t like that genre of story. ‘Missed connections’ are just frustrating, annoying and unsatisfying. This is why I also didn’t enjoy Normal People.

I bet hardly anyone has seen this one but Sucker Punch (a Zack Snyder special). Most of the film is fantasy but what happens to Babydoll is horrific and the whole concept/outfits/plot left such a bad taste.

Challengers - I know it was the whole point of the end, but goddammit I needed to know who won the match.
