Yes we got 10 minutes in and felt the same!

lowironandsurgery · 20/01/2024 19:22

Not seen it but nothing will beat the original imo
The cast, the dialogue, October 3rd

ForeverWinter · 20/01/2024 19:23

Do you mean Mean Girls 2 or the Mean Girls movie that's just come out that is the movie adaptation of the musical and is therefore more targeted towards the theatre crowd ?

Mean girls 2 is absolute tosh and absolutely isn't worth the watch but I quite enjoyed Mean Girls (The musical movie) but then i'm it's target audience and went in knowing it was a musical adaptation not a remake

Needmorelego · 20/01/2024 19:24

Shame you left early - because it's really good and funny.
You can't base a film by watching just 10 minutes of it 🙄

We watched the first hour but that was plenty!

I’m guessing they mean the one that’s in the cinemas right now.

Needmorelego · 20/01/2024 19:26

@milkonesugar35 yes it's not "Mean Girls 2" because that means a sequel. It's not a sequel. It's the same story and characters told in a different way (ie a musical).

BoohooWoohoo · 20/01/2024 19:26

Is the film in the cinema called Mean Girls 2 ? I watched a film called Mean Girls 2 years ago and it was rubbish.

HalloumiGeller · 20/01/2024 19:28

I've seen the trailer and it's just trying to recreate the original movie, which was amazing and cannot be done any better! I'm definitely not going to bother.

Needmorelego · 20/01/2024 19:28

"Mean Girls 2" is a completely different film to the one the OP has posted about.
The new one is just "Mean Girls". It's funny, silly, a musical...... shame the OP didn't like it.

LlynTegid · 20/01/2024 20:49

Thanks for saving us all a waste of time OP.

Lindsay Lohan I saw on the London Underground when she did a play in London (in 2014 apparently).

PilatesForAll · 21/01/2024 09:59

Oh I meant mean girls 2, the movie, not the current one (didn’t even know it existed?)

Marshmallow87 · 21/01/2024 10:02

I felt similar in the first 10 mins but stuck it through and actually ended up really enjoying it! Loved the music and tried not to see it as a total remake and compare back to the original which I love.

WannaBeABillionnaire · 21/01/2024 10:05

I’m glad that the arbiter of all things, aka the OP, has let us know her opinion so we can finally be aware of what we should all think about this film she hasn’t even seen in full (and doesn’t know the name of…).

I'm just back from it and absolutely loved it. Reneé Rapp as Regina George totally stole the show. I also highly recommend Sex Lives of College Girls in ITVX if anyone wants to see her in anything else. Tina Fey's writing is a sharp as ever and I loved her reprisal of her original role.

I would compare it to Barbie when people were surprised that it wasn't a children's film, as others have already said, it's the film of the Broadway show.

Gymmum82 · 21/01/2024 16:52

It’s just a musical of the original. So if you don’t like the original. Or if you don’t like musicals. You’re probably not gonna like it. I thought it was great. Funny and I love musicals Auli’i Cravalho (Moana) was amazing as Janice and Renee Rapp as Regina George was brilliant too. Totally worth watching

Beamur · 21/01/2024 16:55

DD and her friends went to see it, she thought some of the songs were a bit rubbish but overall really enjoyed the film and found it funny.

NewYear24 · 26/01/2024 22:38

I thoroughly enjoyed it, I thought Renee Rapp was excellent.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 27/01/2024 15:15

Was okay. Did seem to miss the charm of the original and found Cady lacking...and she just turned quite quickly as well! Liked Regina though helped she was in the theatre show.
Listening to the original soundtrack it's a shame they changed the songs the way they did..seemed more fun

And missed Jingle bell rock lol.

The actual Mean Girls 2..that was something else

lavenderlou · 27/01/2024 15:18

Took my DDs. We all enjoyed it, although nit as much as the original.

Needmorelego · 27/01/2024 15:24

@LetsGoFlyAKiteee what do you mean you missed "Jingle Bells Rock"? They have that in the new film too.

riotlady · 27/01/2024 15:25

I enjoyed it! Prefer the original, which was funnier imo, but it was still good. Auli’i Cravalho was amazing, she stole the whole show. The girl playing Cady was a bit nothing-y, which is a shame when Lindsay Lohan was so iconic.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 27/01/2024 15:25

It’s not mean girls 2. And that’s your opinion, why do you need to tell others not to go. So weird.
