Many questions for knowledgeable folk!

Anyone seen Saltburn and if so, is it worth seeing?

I'm billy no mates over Christmas so thought I could leave Wonka and Napoleon till after Christmas, do we think they'll still be on?

Thanks.

Saltburn is absolutely not a Christmas film although it is good. It's disturbing with some...graphic material.

EmmaEmerald · 06/12/2023 00:09

Oh I know it's not a Christmas film - hence the dash in my title

Just thinking it will vanish before then and wondered what it was like. Is it lots of blood and gore? Can't cope with that.

The others seem fairly safe to still be on at Xmas?

It’s not a horror no, more a dark comedy. I enjoyed it. If you liked promising young woman I think you’d appreciate this too.

EmmaEmerald · 06/12/2023 00:19

@JudyGemstone thanks

I haven't seen that but dark comedy sounds good!

It is a dark film but I enjoyed it.

slowsundays · 06/12/2023 12:24

Not blood or gore so you should be fine there. Just dark scenes. Sorry I misread that! I thought you might be going in for a jolly time 😂

AndrewGarfieldsLaptop · 06/12/2023 19:40

Saltburn is on home streaming from Dec 22. I really loved Saltburn, think knives out but x rated.

Wonka definitely as it's for the Christmas market. I've heard pleasant reviews, better than what I expected!

Napoleon Fight scenes are amazing... and that's pretty much it.

biedrona · 06/12/2023 20:22

Has anyone seen Maestro?

Cleebope2 · 08/12/2023 21:25

Just back from the cinema tonight after seeing Saltburn, not at all Christmassy! Very gothic. I knew nothing about it but DD 21 really wanted to see it as Jacob Elordi is huge with that age group. This film is amazing. I loved it. Very erotic and darkly funny and gorgeously shot with a fabulous cast. Barry Keoghan blew my mind!!

There is some blood 😆

I decided to wait for Saltburn at home due to weather!

Napoleon - I'm hearing it's not that good?

Maestro is coming to Netflix as well. My ex went to the premiere. He liked it but the trailer looks uneventful.

Saltburn is really good but exceptionally bleak and depressing. Stayed with me for a few days.

While it has moments of comedy, I would not describe it as a dark comedy by any means.

LizziesTwin · 11/12/2023 22:52

I’ve just left Saltburn & didn’t find it at all bleak or depressing. I’ll have to think a bit more about it.

rockpoolingtogether · 23/12/2023 21:11

Trying to watch the final 8 minutes but my streaming platform has messed up. I liked it!

PTSDBarbiegirl · 23/12/2023 21:23

Maestro was well made, gorgeous big set pieces but bleak and I absolutely hated the main character, Saltburn has a fabulous lead actor who makes the film, disturbing and dark though, could have cut 30 mins off in edit. Chicken Run follow up is amazing and Candy cane Lane schmaltzy fun.

Kitchenwitchery · 23/12/2023 21:26

DH and I have just finished watching Saltburn - we turned to each other at the end and said "well, Merry Christmas" and laughed, because it is basically the opposite of a Christmas movie. Also there is blood in it. It's not terribly violent but it's somewhat violent, and there is definitely, definitely blood. Can't say any more without spoilers. We both really liked it, though.

craigth162 · 23/12/2023 21:30

I took ds 14 to see napoleon. We both love history and know a bit about french revolution so enjoyed it. I think if that hadnt been case i wouldve been lost and a bit bored. Its not a great film to just see as a film iykwim

LividSleep · 23/12/2023 21:30

Can someone let me know if Saltburn has anything about dead kids in.

I can’t cope with that but don’t want to spoiler myself on BBFC site if I end up watching it.

EmmaEmerald · 23/12/2023 21:32

I've rejected Napoleon (that sounds funny) as I heard it was more about his private life?

will get to Maestro and Saltburn very soon! I'm really looking forward to Saltburn.

not sure I cba dragging self to cinema for Wonka now school holidays are on.

No dead kids. It's disturbing but absolutely amazing. Like PP, the cast blew my.mind!

BiblicallyAccurateAngel · 23/12/2023 22:14

I didn't like that the main character was supposed to be a teenager for most of the film, but clearly looked in his 30s.

His Merseyside accent also wasn't perfect and was defo more Irish at times.

But otherwise great film.

Amara123 · 23/12/2023 22:14

Saltburn was an experience to watch, beautifully shot, great cast, evocative of the early 2000s.
I loved it.
Jacob Elordi is beautiful in it.

MotherofAllMatriarchs · 23/12/2023 22:23

@LividSleep I just watched Saltburn and it has two dead kids in it! Very graphic.

BiblicallyAccurateAngel · 23/12/2023 22:28

They're adults though, not children.

I mean they are someone's children, as in offspring, but so is everyone!
