she does stand very oddly though doesn't she?
you know, with her arms sticking out at funny angles?

ladytophamhatt · 13/02/2008 19:40

God I cannot stand that woman.

There was little soundbite from her on the radio teh other day and I felt like smeshing the radio to bits...Uuggh h her horrible twee, "i'm soo very posh and so very normal" voice make me feel violent.

cornsilk · 13/02/2008 19:42

Is she good or is it just cleverly edited? Can't watch her with a straight face since that goofy dancing she did in 'Bend it Like Beckham.'

my life is like that Pruni
you should never have moved away from Oxford dear, we are all having frantic passionate shags in libraries on a daily basis you know

scootermum · 13/02/2008 19:47

I thought she was ok in it, but not in it enough to live up to all the hype re her performance.Plus she has a very large chin I find and is just too irritating to get away with any role really..But JM, my word..
I need some smelling salts just thinking about him..

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/02/2008 19:48

She is not good. Especially in Atonement (a travesty to the book)

'come back to me'

no thanks love.

I must say the memory of JM in that DJ walking across the fields is bringing a pleasant flush to my cheeks right now

VanillaPumpkin · 13/02/2008 19:49

We watched this on Sunday and it was really very good. I thought it was good at the time but I keep thinking about it since so it has made an impact....KK and JMcE play their roles beautifully. The love was almost tangible. And she normally annoys me too.

bran · 13/02/2008 19:52

Was she doing sad/traumatised/deeply wounded/miffed? Because she can do those reasonably well. She just can't do bubbly/intelligent/witty/angry/happy/in love or really any of the emotions needed for Elizabeth in Pride and Predjudice. I'm not her biggest fan because I do think that an actor really should be able to act, the clue is in the job title.

Similarly I've often thought that Ewan McGregor is fab at playing someone stressed beyond normal limits, but couldn't play the controlled emotions, wisdom and power of Obi Wan Kenobi at all.

Bought Atonement on dvd the other day but haven't watched it yet. I think I'm put off by the warning of 'bloody injuries' on the box, as I'm a bit of a wimp!

VanillaPumpkin · 13/02/2008 19:57

I don't remember the bloody injuries . I thought that KK did in love in this film well. Haven't seen Pride and Prejudice though. Or read the book....Book seemed a bit too bleak and black for me but I might give it a go inthe future when the memories of the film have gone. I hate the two things conflicting...

bran · 13/02/2008 19:58

There are some actors who are so good that they light up the scene and even make the other actors look good. JM is one, as is Robert Downey Jr.

scootermum · 13/02/2008 19:59

Oh the dinner jacket as he walked across the 'great park' at dusk or what was it he said..Ive come over all teen-age...im going to go and watch it again NOW!

I couldnt stop thinking about it either VP..very affecting..I was that way when I first read the book too, though I dont like any of his other ones much..

I hated her as Elizabeth Bennett..the film was poor IMO compared to the BBC version..and I wasnt even that bothered re the whole Firth in a shirt thing either..Just liked it as a whole..

Ewan McGrogor as Obi Wan...no no no..he was god awful..but I did read an interview with him once where he said he was aiming for wooden-he was trying to be ironic see...well he was successful at the wooden part at least..

I'll join you Lapin. I really like KK - can't stand bloomin' Attonement though (the book; I haven't seen the film as I thought the book was rubbish).

emkana · 13/02/2008 20:04

James McAvoy... god he's wonderful [swoon]

I agree 100 % with bran.

KK's smile is so f*ing irritating that I want to slap her. Luckily she doesn't really get to smile in Atonement.

bunnyhunny · 13/02/2008 20:06

lth - you are so right - its her fucking voice! sooooo irritating.
i did try to like her, but just can't

I am a bit anti KK too - I avoid all of her films for fear of smashing up DH's prized TV ...
It's the bottom lip thing ...

But I positively adore JM - he was second on my list of Sleb crushes (after the late Heath Ledger )

He is one of the few slebs I would throw my knickers at

So, what to do? I need to see this film ...
