isn't she just a bit too thin? is she really naturally that thin? She is very photogenic, yes, not so keen on her acting ablility, but haven't seen Atonement yet [don't normally fancy JM but he does look good in the clips]
The director is magnificent with visuals not sure about depth of content...

bran · 13/02/2008 20:14

Ewan MacGregor was good in 2 films (IMO) Trainspotting and A Life Less Ordinary. He was playing much the same emtional range in both and he was pretty watchable.

JM would have been fantastic as young Obi Wan, what a wasted bit of casting that was. Mind you, he's pretty young isn't he, he may have been too young at the time.

scootermum · 13/02/2008 20:21

See it ghosty..JM outweighs the KK effect IMO..
She is thin..cant be healthy..
Apparently JM lives near where I work..Perhaps I could engineer a meeting with him in the local Budgens or something..I wouldnt speak to him, I would just look at him..I was getting quite depressed about going back to work after my mat leave...now Im feeling a bit more chipper
God Im sad..

VanillaPumpkin · 13/02/2008 20:22

KK is far too thin for sure. I want to see the film again though as I feel I missed bits the first time round....

VanillaPumpkin · 13/02/2008 20:24

Oh and I usually liked Ewan McGregor but he is RUBBISH and BLOODY AWFUL as Obi Wan. It spoils the films for me.

No, I can't go there.

Kiera and James just irritate me way too much to ever sit through a film with the two of them in it.

scootermum · 13/02/2008 20:43

I like a bit of rough though Pruners...Id have him dressed up or down..

DH says he doesnt fancy KK much..too much chin, not enough meat on her (fortunately for me he likes his laydees with one or two six curves )

ghosty · 13/02/2008 21:31

I think her thinness probably makes her well cast - have you read the book?
She is described as painfully thin and rather horsey looking and rather ugly in an attractive kind of way ... that is what I worked out anyway

ghosty · 13/02/2008 21:34

Or is that 'attractive in an ugly kind of way'? Something like that anyway

mcnoodle · 13/02/2008 21:39

There was an article about the director of Atonement in the Observer mag this weekend. he said (of KK) that he just told her to stop pouting every now and again and she was fine.

God she's horribly pouty though.

NKF · 13/02/2008 21:40

I think the film is pretty average actually. Made for the US market and cliched. Not sure what I think of KN. Thought she made a dreadful Elizabeth Bennett and where does she keep her internal organs?

Who cares about how she looks?

She comes across as annoying as a mosquito under your clothes.

I'm going to start a petition to slap that smug excuse for a grin of James McAvoy's face.

Pruners, if you are around, mind having a look at lisslielou's Moving to Edinburgh thread?

lissieheadsnorth

End hijack.

InLoveWithSweenyTodd · 26/02/2008 15:11

resurrecting this thread to say I saw Atonement yesterday and I was a bit disappointed. Maybe if I had read the book, I would understand Briony's motivations a bit better.
KieraK reminds me of Wynona Ryder at her most annoying. I think she's beautiful but I don't like her acting.
JamesM is OK.
Some scenes are pointless - that long sequence in the beach, with the camera going from one group of soldiers to another, endlessly, pointlessly, and everything looked so staged, not realistic at all.
I found the script confusing, although I understand why they want to tell the story that way, the final result is not right somehow.
Anyway, I want that green dress.

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/02/2008 15:15

KK's maniacal grin is frightening. She looks like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.

Nearly as bad is her perma-pout.

Not seen Atonement but think she would destroy the regard I have for the book. She was fucking awful as Elizabeth Bennett.

InLoveWithSweenyTodd · 26/02/2008 15:17

lol that pout! why oh why does she have to do that.

I read the book.
No need to see the film as it would never ever live up to the book.
To put it into film is to overstate the narrative
Wrong and to put that sulking Keira (if you hate being famous then fuck off and get a jon in an office love no one would miss you) Knightley in it.
Travesty indeed

InLoveWithSweenyTodd · 26/02/2008 15:53

I liked the first part until the arrest, but for me it went downhill from then on, and I found the war scenes, with all the bloody injuries et al, surprisingly staged and un-moving. But maybe it's just me.
I would still watch it again, as I think it is a film that may grow on me.

wishfort · 27/03/2008 01:11

I'm glad someone noticed the weird way she holds her arms. I've seen several women do this and they've all been incredibly thin, too.

KK in P&P was just an extended look at her neck, she really can't act, it's just the look of her.

DforDiva · 29/03/2008 23:02

probably their arms are heavy for their body?
i always think she is aneroxic. and she does not seem to have real acting talent but seem to get loads good roles.
