Rather than movies you got bored with - this is more a couldn’t watch to the end.l, and why, and did you ever get over it and watch it theough.

as always…. I will start.

Trainspotting….

Too close to home. I’m Scottish, grew up in poverty, drink, drugs, violence were the norm for me, so when I was in my twenties and this came out, with a ‘banging’ soundtrack, I had to make sure I saw it. It was the toilet scene that made me turn off and away, as it seemed to show the depths of depravity of the society I grew up in, and had just left by that point. I guess I still knew too many people still in that life.

I did watch it later In life and was a bit more jaded by life and happier in my bubble and so it seemed distant and other worldly to me - overall I’d say a 5 on the IMDb scale.

I had to stop watching The Green Mile before the execution scene, I physically couldn’t bear it.

boymama82 · 24/02/2023 14:49

P.S I love you! Wayyyyyyy too sad 😔

Artisticpaint · 24/02/2023 14:52

Casino Royale, with Danial Craig, sooo boring I went to bed when they started playing poker. Haven’t watched a James Bond film since.

AnnPerkins · 24/02/2023 14:57

Boiling Point. It just induced the most horrendous feelings of stress and anxiety and reminded me of all the shit jobs I've had. DH stuck with it and thought it was great and it's not his usual type of film.

Everything Everywhere All at Once. At first I was enjoying the quirkiness but it was just incessant. In the end my head was spinning and I just wasn't following it so I gave up.

Requiem for a dream. I was persuaded to watch the whole thing eventually. I guess it shows that drug addiction often renders people selfish, broken and unlikeable but as a viewing experience it was incredibly tedious for me and I found it over the top and pretentious.

Before sunset/sunrise, just found the characters unbearable and hated it.

You did the right thing.

mathanxiety · 24/02/2023 15:43

Goodfellas.

I felt physically ill.

Life is Beautiful. It was devastating very early in and I couldn't sit through the inevitable end.

Same. I went to bed when the father was running and I decided that I didn't want to see the last ten minutes, I'd let it end there and invent a happy ending.

Shotgun wedding. On Prime.
And I usually love a bit of mindless drivel on a rainy Saturday afternoon but it was SHITE.

Oh that was awful, like you I sometimes just want to watch crap I don't have to think about but 20 mins in I was done.

ThePixiesTookIt · 24/02/2023 16:05

I have to stop watching anything psychological that has a character gaslighting another, or child abuse or cruelty to animals.
I love independent films or ones that don't fit the Hollywood blockbuster type but I have never seen such a shitty pile of pretentious drivel as Tree Of Life.
I didn't make it to the end.

wishing3 · 24/02/2023 16:08

Saturday Night Fever and Clockwork Orange, because of the rape scenes.

oh god, that film really upset me too.

midsomermurderess · 24/02/2023 16:57

Pretty much anything by Christopher Momento. So many false dawns, it’s going to end after this massive act of violence, oh no, it isn’t, there’s another 40 minutes of crash, bang, bloody wallop.

midsomermurderess · 24/02/2023 16:57

Christopher Nolan, after Momento.

beguilingeyes · 24/02/2023 17:48

Not a film but the Robert Carlyle story in Cracker. The killing of DCI Bilborough is probably the most upsetting thing I've seen in a TV drama. I can never watch it again.

imnotthatkindofmum · 18/02/2023 12:41

Absolutely the same. Wtf is the point if that film other than shock value?!

I haven’t seen the film but there was definitely a point to the book it was based on. It was about the vicious subculture that the main character was immersed in, the nature of his punishment and the consequences/ moral issues over that punishment. Really good book but obviously very brutal, and I wouldn’t want to see the film.

JuniperBerry1 · 24/02/2023 18:40

Watership Down. When it was on at Christmas as a young child, I used to go and write my thank you letters instead. Nearly 38 and have still never seen past the first 20 minutes!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 24/02/2023 18:48

Last Tango in Paris.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/02/2023 19:01

The Blair Witch Project. The only time I've ever walked out of a cinema and gone to the pub instead Bloody hell that film was dreadful...

Same. Loads of people rave about it but I couldn't get past the first hour, thought it was rubbish.

Love Actually and Mamma Mia- complete drivel.

AllOfThemWitches · 24/02/2023 19:07

The Holy Mountain

sunflowerandivy · 24/02/2023 19:07

Saw and any of the Saw series. Completely at a loss at how anyone can find those films enjoyable

I came here to write the exact same thing! It’s just a relentless, frenetic sensory onslaught. Too much. Way too much.

hotdiggetydog · 24/02/2023 19:15

An awful lot of films going over people's heads here 😂😂
