Rather than movies you got bored with - this is more a couldn’t watch to the end.l, and why, and did you ever get over it and watch it theough.

as always…. I will start.

Trainspotting….

Too close to home. I’m Scottish, grew up in poverty, drink, drugs, violence were the norm for me, so when I was in my twenties and this came out, with a ‘banging’ soundtrack, I had to make sure I saw it. It was the toilet scene that made me turn off and away, as it seemed to show the depths of depravity of the society I grew up in, and had just left by that point. I guess I still knew too many people still in that life.

I did watch it later In life and was a bit more jaded by life and happier in my bubble and so it seemed distant and other worldly to me - overall I’d say a 5 on the IMDb scale.

Everything Everywhere All at Once. At first I was enjoying the quirkiness but it was just incessant. In the end my head was spinning and I just wasn't following it so I gave up.

I came here to write the exact same thing! It’s just a relentless, frenetic sensory onslaught. Too much. Way too much.

Ditto - a very long, frenetic episode of Red Dwarf.

Could easily have walked out of the recent Babylon.

Not a movie but Happy Valley, Series 1. Thought I'd start from the beginning on iPlayer because of the hype and I can see it's good but I found the hostage scenario not terribly convincing, quite sadistic and generally depressing, esp the way it pans out for Steve Pemberton's character. Shame because I can see it's pretty good, beginning Ep 2 it just feels there's no upside watching it.

Movies at the cinema are not cheap these days - can be around £18 for a matinee so they don't exactly tempt you in.

Deer Hunter, left cinema early.

Yeah thought the same. Got as far as the sausage finger part and just thought 'nah' and turned it off.

Not a film but the Robert Carlyle story in Cracker. The killing of DCI Bilborough is probably the most upsetting thing I've seen in a TV drama. I can never watch it again.

Yes this, I rewatched Cracker recently and had no memory of this (I was young when the series was originally aired)

Django by Tarantino. I walked out the cinema and promiced not to watch any more movies by Tarantino. But it spread out to any move where violence against women is a main "indulgence".

amyds2104 · 28/02/2023 08:27

Me too!

flabbygoldfish · 28/02/2023 08:32

it was not the violence in Clockwork Orange. it was the male arrogance, sense of entitlement, misogyny which just made me really hate men and want them all wiped from the planet. I think because there is a tiny bit of it lots of male behaviour that when amplified just makes me more aware and pissed off about it.

Yes, not all men are like that but even the ‘nice unassuming ones’ still have a bit of a streak. This film makes me more aware of this to an unhealthy level.

Maybe I should just keep watching until he gets a kicking, might make me feel better.

Shunkleisshiny · 28/02/2023 08:35

Moulin Rouge, stuck it for 10 minutes them gave up. It is migraine inducing.

Coffeecat15 · 28/02/2023 08:59

Trainspotting was raw for me to watch too. Having a heroin addict father and all his friends on it too. On the flip side any sort of.movie where people are moaning about problems that aren't problems gets on my nerves. Requim for a dream I think was another film about addicts. Why try watching them? Curiosity I think ?

WithASpider · 28/02/2023 11:24

Life

Got 5 minutes in and had to turn off. Creeped me out too much.

WestOfWestminster · 03/03/2023 16:18

The number of people who've mentioned The Tree of Life has cracked me up. I did watch that till the end and it did not improve! And was so long 😵

Another vote for Titanic. Just so sad with the children

edithjc · 13/03/2023 06:44

For me, it was The Piano Teacher. It was difficult to watch toward the end.

Mixedberrygenderfluidmuffin · 13/03/2023 09:03

Everything everywhere all at once.
I did get to the end, but it was a struggle - it was so long and the action was so repetitive and so boring.
I cannot fathom the love for this film - it just wasn’t entertaining.

Also a film called ‘The Aristocrats’, about the world’s unfunniest joke - the only time I’ve ever walked out a film, due to sheer tedium.

It's just won a ton of Oscars so someone gets it lol.

When I was in my twenties, a long time ago(90s), my horrible emotionally abusive boyfriend at the time took me on Valentine's Day to see Straw Dogs. I should have walked out but was too worried about annoyed the arsehole. What a horrible film . It is about this couple who return to the woman's childhood village that is very insular and incestous. There is a horrific rape( with horrible, misogynist ambiguous overtones) in it and loads of violences. Really oppressive . Never ever watched it again.

Oh yes that was a hard watch! I think I missed out part of the second episode while DH kept watching, but then I went back to it and was glad I did. There were glimmers of hope in there like the incredible divers and the miners who managed a slight sense of humour in the face of this true nightmare. When you think how much worse it could have been without their efforts, it brought me a bit of comfort. And it seemed like potentially a good analogy for the covid disaster which made it extra interesting to reflect on in subsequent months and renewed my commitment to democracy somewhat.

It is very disturbing, but it was great how they drew that sense of dread out of you. They really set the scenes well and you almost felt like you had lived through that time yourself (really badly explained, but can't quite articulate what I mean). I found it really hard to watch, but one of the best things I have seen on TV. I'm someone who hates anything too dark too.

Mine are Sex and The City movie. I did see the end, but I was with friends. If I was in the cinema I would have left. Utter garbage. I have never managed to get to the end of the hobbit movies or LOTR either as I have always fallen asleep.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/03/2023 20:08

Walked out of The Tin Drum (1979 movie) when I was watching it at the cinema in the mid 80s. First and last film I've ever given up on in the cinema - but as I know I won't enjoy horror films I've never attempted to watch the likes of Saw or The Blair Witch Project.

I started to watch The Omen on TV alone at home once. I love Gregory Peck! However, got as far as the first time that musical theme started and had to give up.

Perfumequestion · 13/03/2023 20:47

Girl with a dragon tattoo. Had to walk out the cinema. Hadn't read the book 🙈

premiumknot · 13/03/2023 20:49

Gothika back in 2004. I walked out of the cinema 30 mins in. Just had this profound realisation that instead of getting scared for no good reason, I could be spending my time more pleasantly or productively.
I haven't watched a horror movie since.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 13/03/2023 20:59

We turned Elvis off after about 30 minutes.

NotMeNoNo · 13/03/2023 21:06

The Banshees of Inisherin. Lost me at the first severed finger. Then I googled the synopsis and went to bed early!

Ripleysgameface · 13/03/2023 21:06

Under the skin with Scarlett Johansson- could handle the baby on the beach.

BarrelOfOtters · 13/03/2023 21:07

Everything everywhere all at once…just too frenetic…I like a story.

sex and the city movie 2 …on a plane…it was crap. Anode they all knew it too. I turned it off.

NotMeNoNo · 13/03/2023 21:08

Also left the Downton Abbey movie before the end (cinema). It was such contrived drivel it couldn't end soon enough.
